Telling the Truth

Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Gazing at God

March 9, 2016
Are you ever tempted to blame yourself for your suffering? Satan wants us to believe that hardships are punishment for our sin—but nothing could be further from the truth. Christ suffered the consequences of our sin so we don't have to.

In this message, Jill looks to the book of Job to explain how—in the midst of our turmoil—we can live above Satan's lies and live in light of the Truth instead.

This is the 7th message in Jill's 8-message series, Triumph in Trouble, on the life of Job.

Will you stay faithful to God even when your world is crumbling around you? Suffering puts us in a vulnerable state for Satan's attacks. He roams the earth, waiting to pounce until we're weak and at our breaking point. We see this all throughout the book of Job. Satan prowls about, teases him, and uses individuals in Job's life to criticize and hurt him. In this message, Jill teaches us how we can cope with Satan's attacks and come out of the battle victorious. This is the 5th message in Jill's 8-message series, Triumph in Trouble, on the life of Job.

Even when your theology aligns with the Bible and you recognize that sometimes the righteous are called to suffer, when pain and suffering come your way it can feel a bit like diving into cold water—it can take your breath away and test your faith. Suffering can seem like an endless battle, because as soon as you get in it, you just want to get out. Hours, days, weeks, months, or even years can go by and you're still asking, "How long, oh Lord?" So what do you do when you're in a seemingly endless season of hardship? In this message, Jill shares how when we're willing to wait out our seasons of suffering, God won't let the time go to waste. This is the 3rd message in Jill's 8-message series, Triumph in Trouble, on the life of Job.

When trouble comes your way, are you quick to question it? Have you ever gone so far as to question God Himself? The world can tempt us into asking, How could a loving God let something so terrible happen? Have you ever found yourself pondering that question? Instead of questioning the character of God, Job willingly received suffering from God's hands. But how was he able to accept the seemingly unacceptable? Jill shares how we can experience a transformation of attitude, and move from a place of questioning God to a place of trusting God. This is the 2nd message in Jill's 8-message series, Triumph in Trouble, on the life of Job.

One look at the news and you may ask yourself, "Are we living in the last days?" With so much uncertainty going on around us, we may be wondering if the end is drawing near. After Jesus told the disciples that Jerusalem's huge, ornate temple would be destroyed and not one stone left standing, they were concerned about when that would happen. They asked Him for signs to watch for, clues so that they could be ready. Instead, Jesus told them the only thing they needed to be worried about was standing firm. So what can we do to stand firm and be faithful? In this message, Stuart explains Jesus' brief parable about the budding fig tree and encourages us to stand firm in our faith. Centered on Luke 21:5-38, this is the final message in Stuart's 10-message series But What Did Jesus Say About It? from the book of Luke.

We all have to deal with money, and we all deal with money in different ways, from penny pinchers to big spenders, from those living paycheck-to-paycheck to those investing millions. If we asked for financial advice from those around us, we would probably get many different answers. But consider we came into this world with nothing and we leave this world with nothing. Everything we have between coming into this world and leaving it is entrusted to us from God. So what did Jesus say about how we use our wealth? In this message, Stuart explains Jesus' parable about the dishonest steward and shows us that what we do with what we've been given can have a long-lasting impression. Centered on Luke 16:1-18, this is the 9th message in Stuart's 10-message series But What Did Jesus Say About It? from the book of Luke.

When you picture God, what do you see? You might picture someone staunch, reserved, and dignified with long, white hair and a beard, perhaps something similar to Michelangelo's portrayal on the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The Pharisees also had ideas of what God is like, so they objected when Jesus told some parables that gave a portrayal of God that did not fit their picture of who He is. In this message, Stuart uses three well-known parables of Jesus to show us what the Father is really like and give us a glimpse at God's heart toward us. Centered on Luke 15:1-32, this is the 8th message in Stuart's 10-message series But What Did Jesus Say About It? from the book of Luke.
