Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Fathers - Part 1

June 18, 2015
In our culture today, one thing is glaringly obvious: Not all families are happy and not all marriages are intact, and there's a clear correlation between the two. One of the fascinating things sociologists are saying is that the weak link in the structure of the family is the relationship between the father and the child.

If we are to look at what is causing very genuine concern in our world and what is happening in the disintegration of any families, perhaps they have given us a clue. We need to be looking at the relationship between the father and the children.

Stuart Briscoe takes us to Ephesians 6:1-4 to explore God's plan for the role and responsibilities of fathers - for the well-being of our families and our culture as a whole.

This message is the 2nd message in Pete's series, Changed by Christ. Mark 1:40-45

What if I told you that no matter how well you follow the commandments, it still wouldn't be enough to get you into heaven? Doesn't that seem unfair? Nicodemus thought he was guaranteed a place with God because he was one of the most knowledgeable law keepers of his time. Listen as Pete takes us to John 3 to explain Jesus' corrections to those assumptions. This message is centered on Nicodemus and is the 1st message in Pete's series, Changed by Christ. John 3

From birth, we embark on a lifetime of learning and we learn in a variety of ways. If we assume that we were created by an intentional God who had something in mind when He created us, then clearly we need to learn much about Him and His purposes. Peter said this would "keep you from being ineffective and unproductive in your knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ" (2 Peter 1:8). Taken from 2 Peter 1:3-11, this message by Stuart is the 3rd teaching in Stuart and Jill Briscoe's 3-message series A Lifetime of Wisdom.

In Psalm 71 we have a man in his middle years looking back, looking around, and looking forward. He is musing over some of his life lessons of faith and wisdom, seeking to finish strong. This is a good exercise for all of us... whatever age we are! Taken from Psalm 71, this message by Jill is the 2nd teaching in Stuart and Jill Briscoe's 3-message series A Lifetime of Wisdom.

An educated man is one who has learned how to learn and never stops learning. But it's important to note that spiritual wisdom differs from earthly wisdom because spiritual wisdom comes from the Spirit of Christ - from heaven. Taken from Proverbs 3, this is the 1st teaching in Stuart Briscoe's 3-message series A Lifetime of Wisdom. Proverbs 3:1-6 and Proverbs 9:10

By yourself, you're unprotected. With a friend, you can face the worst. You probably don't need to be convinced about how important it is to share life with others. To be friendless in a friendless world is a frightening thing. But have you ever struggled to develop meaningful and precious friendships? In Your Need for Friendship, based on Ecclesiastes 4:9-12, Jill shares a lifetime of friendship experiences that reveal our vulnerability where relationships are concerned. She brings to light how your friendships can have a deep impact on your life's journey.

In the 50 years since, Jill has become a highly sought-after Bible teacher and author who travels around the world ministering to under-resourced churches and speaking at international seminars and conferences. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.
