Cultivate Contentment, Part 1

January 9, 2014
Those of us who played organized sports in school may remember a time when the race or game was not going well, and we just wanted to give up.  For many of us, it was the shouts from the sidelines that kept us going. We could hear the coach shouting, "Keep going - you can do it!"
In the same way the coach keeps the team going, Christ keeps us going and guides us home.  We just have to learn to turn everything in our lives over to Him.  In this message, Jill explains how we can learn to let God "coach" us and find contentment in every circumstance.
Based on Philippians 3 & 4, this is the 3rd message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

What people come to mind when thinking of those who have a servant attitude?  Missionaries?  Pastors?  Yourself?  Do you think that having a humble attitude is important?  The apostle Paul had a servant heart and attitude.  He continually gave himself away to benefit those around him.  As a result, he was able to bring many people to Christ.  We can impact those around us just as Paul did if we learn the spiritual art of humility. In this message, Jill explains how having a self-sacrificing attitude can impact others. Based on Philippians 2, this is the 2nd message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

What do you do when you are suffering through a hard time?  Many of us sulk, complain, and feel sorry for ourselves.  Others put on a strong face, but when they are alone, the fear and sadness take over, and they break down.  Much of the apostle Paul's life was spent suffering - most of the time in jail.  But unlike many of us, Paul was joyful no matter what his circumstance. This "spiritual art" of contentment was something Paul learned - and it wasn't easy.  In this message, Jill uses Paul's life as an example of  how we can learn contentment, joy, and peace of mind no matter what we are going through. Based on Philippians 1, this is the 1st message in Jill's 3-part series titled Spiritual Arts.

"Where did the time go?" Most of us have asked that question at some point in our lives. The end of a year and the beginning of a new year confront us with the passage of time. We know time is limited and we know it is a gift, but we do not always know what to do with it. Stuart Briscoe walks us through the book of Ecclesiastes to help us explore this issue, embrace the times and seasons of life, and experience "Life to the full."

Resolution vs. Revolution...When making a New Year's resolution, you promise to adjust your behavior, hoping that it will change who you are as a person. But Pete Briscoe says that is the antithesis of biblical Christianity, which teaches that change happens from the inside out. As your heart changes, behavior follows suit. What we need is a New Year's "revolution" – a declaration of dependence on the Lord for lasting change.   This the tenth message in Pete's series, "Uncommon Sense," and is a New Year's message based on Proverbs 30.

When we're suffering the consequences of our own poor choices; when we're bearing the brunt of someone's vengeance and anger; when we feel absolutely on our own and life is not working out as planned, that's when God will turn up. He wants to walk down the stairway of heaven right into our hearts to make us aware of His personal interest and concern. We learn in Scripture how God wrestled Jacob to the ground one night and turned him upside down - so he could live right-side up. Jacob became a "prince" with God instead of a pain. This message by Jill Briscoe is taken from Genesis 28:10 & 32:22-31.

Christmas is over. Boxes, wrapping paper, and bows are what remain. And now we have the familiar problem of trying to find a place for all of our new gifts. So often, our homes become packed full of stuff. We need to clean out and give to those who are less fortunate. In this message, Pete explores the book of Ruth to explain how we can reach out to those in need. This is the 4th message in Pete's series Inside the Box and is based on Ruth 2
