Comfort Through Trials

August 15, 2016
We know from personal experience that if something can go wrong, it will - and probably at the worst possible time. We navigate through all sorts of trials, but what if the trouble you face is because you're a Christian?

Jesus tells us not to be surprised when we face troubles, because the world around us loves the darkness rather than the light. He also tells us to step out of our comfort zone, thoroughly convinced of who He is, ready to respond differently than the world.

In this message, Stuart Briscoe unpacks John 15 to show us how this kind of response is possible and how to find comfort through trials.

Based on John 15:17-16:4, this is the 4th message in Stuart's series Comfort for Troubled Hearts.

It is a well known fact that human beings have a great need to experience and express love. Failure in either of these areas can lead to profound problems. Jesus taught His troubled disciples about the comfort that comes from loving and being loved. Based on John 14:15-31, this is the 2nd message in Stuart Briscoe's series Comfort for Troubled Hearts.

Jesus, knowing what lay ahead of Him, spent the waning hours of his life with His disciples. It was a difficult time for them and they became deeply troubled. Jesus' response was to tell them, "Trust God, trust Me, don't let your hearts be troubled." Easier said than done, but still the way for troubled hearts to find comfort. Based on John 14:1-14, this is the 1st message in Stuart Briscoe's series Comfort for Troubled Hearts.

Do you find yourself continually dissatisfied or longing for more? God's creation was intended for our delight, never to satisfy our desire. Pete quotes Bruce Johnson, as well as various scriptures, as he explains that God alone is enough for us - He's the only true satisfaction. This is the final message in Pete's 9-message series "I'm Not Who You Think I Am."

Have you gotten upset with God for not answering your prayers? If God really cares about me, why doesn't He swoop down and rescue me from my situation? Find out why God is trustworthy through allowing us to suffer. This is the 4th message in Pete's 9-message series "I'm Not Who You Think I Am." Lamentations 1-3

God will use you, no matter how broken you are, if you are obedient. This is the lesson we can learn from the book of Esther. Esther started as a simple Jewish girl. But God asked her to be obedient, and she ended up risking her life to go before the king and make a request that her people be saved. She went with the knowledge that she would most likely be killed. But Esther had faith and was obedient. Based on Esther 6-10, this is the final message in Jill's 6-message series, God in the Shadows.

Most of us like to put our roots down and feel secure. We don't like change. We don't like being pushed into situations where we'll risk anything. But sometimes God calls us to do this! God calls us to be believers, like Esther and Mordecai, who care enough about the souls of others that we risk our own comfort, and sometimes our own lives, in order to fight for the lives of those around us. Jill teaches us how to be believers who care enough to dare - believers with courage to do the right thing even when we're afraid! Based on Esther 4-5, this is the 5th message in Jill's 6-message series, God in the Shadows.

Upholding the "Christian" label in a world like ours is vulnerable - it’s risky. If we live rightly in our wrong world, sooner or later we will find ourselves in conflict or threatened. When Esther's people, the Jews, were threatened, she had to choose whether or not she was going to stand up for them against the persecution of Haman. Would she keep her identity as a Jew a secret and save herself? Or would she stick her neck out and try to save the Jews? Jill encourages us to be like Esther, and to be unashamed of the Gospel message in our witness. Based on Esther 3, this is the 4th message in Jill's 6-message series, God in the Shadows.
