Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Christ-Centered Fullness

April 7, 2011
Food, family, vacations, and work are all things we often rely on to fill our lives up with goodness and happiness. Although these things may work for a while, eventually they fail and we are left feeling empty.

Have you ever thought about what professional divers go through? First, they have to jump off a really high board, and then they complete a series of turns and flips. Sometimes they perform well; sometimes they don't. The Christian walk can be the same way. Lots of us are willing to jump off the board, but we belly flop in our Christian life because we don't know what to do next. It's great we are willing to jump, but the dive matters, too. In this message, Pete explains three important things we need to know about the dive, or what happens after we put our trust in Christ for salvation. This is the 6th message in Pete's 13-message series from Colossians titled "Truly Centered."

Kids love to make their parents proud. In fact, even when kids become adults, they still strive to make their parents smile and say, "Good job!" We should want to make God, our heavenly Father, proud of us, too.

Have you ever met someone special, like a famous actress or professional football player? It's so exciting that you want to tell everyone you know. Many of us feel that way after we become a Christian.

A lot of people hope to find fulfillment in material things, but it never really works. Other people try to find it in parenting their kids, excelling at work, or traveling around the world. These things are not designed to bring fullness. Jesus offers us "life to the full," and we can have everything we will ever need when we have a personal relationship Christ. In this message, Pete talks about four things we need to know about Jesus in order for Him to fill us up. This is the 3rd message in Pete's 13-message series from Colossians titled "Truly Centered."

Sometimes we feel stuck - stuck in the same pattern of one step forward and two steps back. We see growth in the lives of other Christians and we wonder what we're missing. Pete Briscoe shares the freeing truth that spiritual change doesn't happen from trying harder. We forget that so often. No wonder we're frustrated! In this message we are reminded that lasting change only occurs through God's grace and power. We will learn that our responsibility in growth is to "ask and bask." This is the 2nd message in Pete's 13-message series from Colossians titled "Truly Centered."

Our culture will tell you you need gadgets, a big house, and a fancy car to experience a full life. But the Bible makes it really clear that having a Christ-centered life will fill you right up. How do you know you're living a Christ-centered life? In this message, Pete gives us two evidences of how we can know our lives are Christ-centered in hopes of us wholeheartedly pursuing Christ. This is the 1st message in Pete's 13-message series from Colossians titled "Truly Centered."

About Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Stuart Briscoe uses wit and intellect to target your heart, capture your attention and challenge you to grow! You will find his logic compelling as he brings a fresh, practical perspective to the Scriptures. Born in England, Stuart left a career in banking to enter the ministry full time. He has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than one hundred countries. He was senior pastor of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, for thirty years, and currently serves as minister-at-large.

Jill Briscoe was born in England and found Christ when she was 18 years old. She never looked back. Upon graduating from Cambridge University, she began working as a teacher by day and had a vigorous street ministry to the youths of Liverpool by night.

She met Stuart at a youth conference and they married in 1958. In the 50 years since, Jill has become a highly sought-after Bible teacher and author who travels around the world ministering to under-resourced churches and speaking at international seminars and conferences. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
