Telling the Truth

Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Chains of Blessing - Part 2

May 4, 2010
What do you do when you are suffering through a hard time? Many of us sulk, complain, and feel sorry for ourselves. Others put on a strong face, but when they are alone, the fear and sadness take over, and they break down. Much of the apostle Paul's life was spent suffering - most of the time in jail. But unlike many of us, Paul was joyful no matter what his circumstance. This "spiritual art" of contentment was something Paul learned - and it wasn't easy. In this message, Jill uses Paul's life as an example of how we can learn contentment, joy, and peace of mind no matter what we are going through. This is the first message in Jill's 3-part series on the Book of Philippians titled "Spiritual Arts."

Jill Briscoe Mary of Nazareth, mother of Jesus, was the best woman that ever graced this earth. Good, so good, but not good enough to get into heaven without the Savior she bore. This message is from Jill's series on New Testament women titled, "Women in the Life of Jesus."

Stuart Briscoe Christians who seek to live lives worthy of their high calling are aware that they are involved in a struggle. They need to be clear about the unique nature of the struggle and the way in which God plans for them to stand firm against the enemy and to win the victory.

Stuart Briscoe In the 1st century, many believers were slaves or slave owners. How they conducted themselves in these capacities was vitally important. Our situation is different, but our work habits and relationships are no less significant; half of our waking hours are spent there!

Stuart Briscoe A major part of life is spent in the family and at work. Relationships in these environments are critically important. Societal change has taken place since "Ephesians" was written but the spiritual principles for societal living outlined are still relevant.

About Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Stuart Briscoe uses wit and intellect to target your heart, capture your attention and challenge you to grow! You will find his logic compelling as he brings a fresh, practical perspective to the Scriptures. Born in England, Stuart left a career in banking to enter the ministry full time. He has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than one hundred countries. He was senior pastor of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, for thirty years, and currently serves as minister-at-large.

Jill Briscoe was born in England and found Christ when she was 18 years old. She never looked back. Upon graduating from Cambridge University, she began working as a teacher by day and had a vigorous street ministry to the youths of Liverpool by night.

She met Stuart at a youth conference and they married in 1958. In the 50 years since, Jill has become a highly sought-after Bible teacher and author who travels around the world ministering to under-resourced churches and speaking at international seminars and conferences. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
