Stuart and Jill Briscoe

A Warning to the Religious

June 1, 2016
Are you dabbling around the edge of belief in Jesus, you hear His voice but are unwilling to surrender completely to Life in Him? The longer you live in this in-between state, the more difficult it becomes to turn to Jesus and worship Him completely as Lord and Savior.

In this message, Pete Briscoe shares a warning for church-going nonbelievers who continue to live with hardened, religious hearts. Based on Hebrews 3:7-19, this is the 7th message from the series, Better: A New and Living Way.

The author of Hebrews addresses a struggle for early Jewish believers. They had difficulty focusing their eyes on Jesus because they couldn't see past their hero, Moses. It's understandable. They knew that Moses had the privilege of meeting with God face-to-face in the temple. In this message, Pete Briscoe points us beyond the temple as the meeting place with God to the indwelling Christ, where we have the privilege of meeting with Him anywhere and anytime. Based on Hebrews 3:1-6, this is the 6th message the series, Better: A New and Living Way.

Years ago, Mortimer Adler wrote a book titled How to Read a Book. It sounded elementary, but it proved to be absolutely necessary. It's highly likely that knowing how to listen to a sermon may be equally elementary and necessary in understanding and applying what is taught to everyday life. Based on James 1:16-27, this is the final message in Stuart Briscoe's series, God of Wonder, God of Worship.

Worship is a response to God's self-revelation. Prayer, which is either a spoken or unuttered response to Him, is therefore a premier aspect of worship. Whether in the congregation or alone, Jesus taught us we should pray and pray continually. Based on Luke 11:1-13, this is the second message in Stuart Briscoe's series, God of Wonder, God of Worship.

"Don't put your head on the pillow at night if you hadn't had your nose in the Book during the day." - Stuart Briscoe In addition to recognizing the significance of congregational worship, it's important for believers to develop the practice of personal daily devotions. Based on Psalm 19, this is the first message in Stuart Briscoe's series, God of Wonder, God of Worship.

Have you ever lost a loved one? It is an incredibly painful experience. However, those of us who are believers in Christ have hope. Pete uses 1 Thessalonians 4 to explain that we will get to see our loved ones again. When the Lord returns, the dead will rise first, and then we will be caught up in the air with them. The Apostle Paul wrote this as a word of encouragement to those who may be grieving aloss. This is the final message in Pete Briscoe's 6-message series, "Live Like You Mean It."

Do you have trouble finding a church you feel is the right fit for you? If so, Pete suggests that we need a paradigm shift in our thinking of the church. The church was not meant to be a place where we come to get our needs met. Instead, we should realize that we ourselves are the church. Romans 12 explains that God made each one of us with unique gifts, and each one of these gifts is needed to make the church function as God intended it to. If one part is lacking, the church can survive for a time but will put too much strain on the rest and become weak again. This is the 5th message in Pete Briscoe's 6-message series, "Live Like You Mean It."

The world is full of distractions that will take us places we never intended to go, and Satan is lurking around the corner trying to deceive us with false beliefs. One of those beliefs has been the concept that Jesus, in addition to religious philosophy, traditions, and principles, is what grants us salvation. Pete Briscoe uses Colossians 2 to shine some light on the truth that Christ alone has made it possible for us to be cleansed and seen blameless in God's sight. Based on Colossians 2:8, this is the 4th message in Pete Briscoe's 6-message series, "Live Like You Mean It."

Do you want deep, authentic relationships with people? If you do, perhaps a paradigm shift needs to happen in your thinking. The world tells us to make a name for ourselves and to do it at whatever the cost. The problem is along the way we step on others and damage relationships. In this message, Pete Briscoe teaches from Philippians 2 where the apostle Paul shows us how to think counter-culturally so that we can experience deep and meaningful relationships with others. This message is included in two different series: Live Like You Mean It and Healing Broken Relationships.
