Telling the Truth

Stuart and Jill Briscoe

A Journey of Faith - Part 1

September 25, 2014
The world is full of people we might be eager to please: our spouses, family members, friends, and colleagues. But we live in a broken world with broken people. We won't find personal satisfaction living for broken people.

Only God can affirm our purpose in life. And pleasing Him only comes when we let Him work through us to do His will. Enoch pleased God, and for that he was able to walk straight into eternity with God.

Based on Hebrews 11:1 and Romans 12:1-2, this is Stuart Briscoe's third message from the 4-message series, Finishing Strong.

Is your life governed by your circumstances, or is your life governed by your faith? Today we face challenges that are similar to what Enoch faced. And like Enoch, we need to walk with God in the midst of conflict, in the midst of suffering and hardship in our world. As Enoch saw the generations go from bad to worse, he was still able to live a beautiful life that stood out to others. If we have willing hearts, can we also live beautiful lives governed by our faith? Based on Hebrews 10:32-39, Living in Faith is Stuart Briscoe's second message in the 4-message series, Finishing Strong.

Who is Enoch? He's a figure in the Bible, someone whom God loved so dearly that one day God chose to take him to heaven to be with Him for eternity. Enoch never experienced death! It's obvious that God was pleased with Enoch. So it's worth getting to know who he was, how he lived, and why God found such pleasure in his company. How do we emulate the qualities of Enoch in our own lives? What can we learn from him that will help us to walk with God for all of our days? Stuart Briscoe will uncover the characteristics of Enoch and identify the qualities we need to have Faith for the Long Haul. Based on Hebrews 11:1-6 and Jude, this is the first message in Stuart Briscoe's 4-message series, Finishing Strong.

If you've ever driven a manual car, you know what it's like to hit the gas pedal and then suddenly realize that the car is in neutral. Is it possible you're living life this way, stuck in neutral? Living an unexceptional life with unexceptional relationships. Pete Briscoe is speaking to the guys in Live Life in Gear, and he candidly shares his personal experiences of being disengaged with life, God, and his wife and kids. He cautions that if we continue to live in this state - bored with our lives and distant from family and friends - we risk our relationships slowly dying from being unattended. And the stakes are high. Rich and meaningful relationships are attainable if we let Christ lead through us. The lessons found in Live Life in Gear are universal and will help anyone who wants to experience life to the fullest.

What is God using to chisel you into the image of Christ? Will you lie still in His hand and let Him do it? For Jeremiah, God was using his ministry partner, Baruch, to chisel and hammer him into shape. Jeremiah, too, was chiseling Baruch. Without the encouragement of the other, neither would have had faith enough to finish when their ministry got difficult. In this final message, based on Jeremiah 36 & 45, from her series Faith Enough to Finish, Jill describes how we can learn to work with and celebrate the differences between us and the people in our lives.

Do you ever find yourself running away from God's plans because you feel inadequate? Jeremiah felt inadequate when God called him to be a prophet. But God spoke a promise to Jeremiah saying, "My plan will be in your life, My work will be in your hand, and My words will be in your mouth." In this 2nd message in the series Faith Enough to Finish on the testimony of Jeremiah, Jill teaches how to have the kind of faith that believes that God will enable and equip us to do everything He asks of us. The teaching taken from Jeremiah 1:4-9 and 26:1-2.

About Stuart and Jill Briscoe

Stuart Briscoe uses wit and intellect to target your heart, capture your attention and challenge you to grow! You will find his logic compelling as he brings a fresh, practical perspective to the Scriptures. Born in England, Stuart left a career in banking to enter the ministry full time. He has written more than 50 books, received three honorary doctorates and preached in more than one hundred countries. He was senior pastor of Elmbrook Church in Brookfield, Wisconsin, for thirty years, and currently serves as minister-at-large.

Jill Briscoe was born in England and found Christ when she was 18 years old. She never looked back. Upon graduating from Cambridge University, she began working as a teacher by day and had a vigorous street ministry to the youths of Liverpool by night.

She met Stuart at a youth conference and they married in 1958. In the 50 years since, Jill has become a highly sought-after Bible teacher and author who travels around the world ministering to under-resourced churches and speaking at international seminars and conferences. Since 2000, she and Stuart, who was formerly senior pastor of Elmbrook Church for 30 years, have had the joy of equipping and encouraging believers across the globe in their roles as ministers-at-large for Elmbrook.

Jill has authored more than 40 books including devotionals, study guides, poetry and children's books. Her vivid, relational teaching style touches the emotions and stirs the heart. She serves as Executive Editor of Just Between Us, a magazine of encouragement for ministry wives and women in leadership, and served on the board of World Relief and Christianity Today, Inc., for over 20 years.

Jill and Stuart call suburban Milwaukee, Wisconsin their home. When they are not traveling, they spend time with their three children, David, Judy and Peter, and thirteen grandchildren.
