Stuart and Jill Briscoe

A Defeated Foe

October 12, 2015
Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes." (Eph. 6:11)

Ever feel like you've been under attack? Like Satan and his demons are unrelenting in their assault on your life? It can feel overwhelming and disheartening, and we can easily lose hope. But if we are in Christ, we have an "unconventional" weapon in our arsenal - the name of Jesus! And we must remember that because of Jesus' work on the cross Satan is a powerless, defeated foe!

Based on Ephesians 6:10-13, this is the 1st message in Pete Briscoe's series on spiritual warfare titled Disarming the Darkness.

On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about." After Jesus' ascension into heaven, the believers were filled with fear, wondering if they would be next to be crucified. But something happened that energized these people, gave them power to speak and do things as they never could have before! Based on Acts 1:4, this is the final message in Jill Briscoe's 8-message series, The Heartbeat of the Master.

"And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." It's no secret that all of us will die in the end. Even Jesus died! And this makes His resurrection one of the most important aspects of His life and a source of incredible hope for us. Based on Matthew 28:20 and Luke 24, this is the 7th message in Jill Briscoe's 8-message series, The Heartbeat of the Master.

Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, "My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will." How would you feel if you knew you were going to die painfully tomorrow? When Jesus was in the Garden of Gethsemane, He was struggling with that same knowledge, for not only was He to be crucified the next day, but He was also to bear the weight of all our sin! How did He deal with such emotions? And how can we handle emotions in our own lives? Based on Matthew 26:39, this is the 5th message in Jill Briscoe's 8-message series, The Heartbeat of the Master.

So Jesus said, "When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he and that I do nothing on my own but speak just what the Father has taught me." Jesus' ministry only spanned three short years but had an incredible impact, lasting millennia. What was it about his approach that gave him such power? Based on John 8:28, this is the 4th message in Jill Briscoe's 8-message series, The Heartbeat of the Master.

People become remarkably imaginative about God. But Scripture says, "Eye has not seen, ear has not heard, neither has entered into the heart of man what God has prepared for those who love Him, but God has revealed them to us by His Spirit." Not speculation, not imagination – but revelation. God is in the business of self-revelation, which is a fundamental tenant of Christianity. He has made human beings uniquely capable of receiving what He is revealing. And more than that, He has given us the ability of responding to what we are receiving. He reveals himself, first of all, in creation. Secondly, He reveals himself in covenant, and thirdly, He reveals himself in Christ. This is how we go about discovering what God is really like.

How bold are you in approaching God? In Hebrews we are told that we can "approach the throne of grace with boldness." But when we sin, we tend to have one of two reactions: we rationalize or we hide. Why? Because we think that God loves us less when we sin. The truth is that God loves you perfectly right now - nothing you do can make him love you more or love you less! In this message from Hebrews 5:1-10, Pete Briscoe explains how God's love helps us find this "boldness" and encourages us to be traffickers in grace.
