What Will It Take? Part 3

September 17, 2012
In today’s study, Pastor Jeff draws parallels between Isaiah’s prophecies and modern nations today. Through these prophecies, we see once again that the Bible isn’t just ancient history — it’s relevant for us today! Also, Isaiah shows us God’s might as He wipes out those who oppose Him, and preserves those who turn to Him. Pastor Jeff reminds us that God will do the same even today.

As we finish up Isaiah 17, we see that the Lord judges those who forsake Him, but He answers those who call on Him. Despite Israel’s sins, when they turned back to the Lord and called upon Him, He delivered them. In the same way, Pastor Jeff exhorts us to bathe every aspect of our lives in prayer. God promises to answer His people when they call.

As we begin Isaiah 17, we see a prophecy against Damascus, a city that was proud and needed to be brought low. Are you resisting God? Like Jonah discovered, God will never let His children run away. God loves us, and He will do whatever it takes to humble us and bring us back to Him.

One of Satan’s favorite ways to trip up believers is to encourage their pride. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff warns us against pride. This was Moab’s greatest fault. God would have delivered Moab, but they trusted only in themselves and rejected God’s offer of help. They thought their own righteousness could save them, and as a result they lost everything.

As we get into Isaiah 16, we see that the Lord provided the Jews a refuge from their enemies; but Isaiah also gave a future prophecy regarding the antichrist. When the antichrist comes, God will once again provide a refuge for His people, and He will protect them until Christ returns to earth for His millennial reign.

God’s great forgiveness is proof of His love. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff reminds us that, in His mercy, God cleanses us from even the most grievous sins. We cannot escape from our own iniquity, but God promises us that if we repent and turn to Him, He will forgive us and make our sins as white as snow.

Don’t underestimate the grace of God in your life. Remember the story of Ruth: she was a Moabite, a race that was universally known to hate God’s chosen people Israel, yet she joined the family of Christ and became an ancestor of Jesus. God can lift you up, but you must first be born again into His family and truly receive Him into your heart.

John 10:10 says, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.” We need to remember that, yes, God does allow bad things to happen. But He is not the creator of evil — Satan is. Christ’s desire is for us to have eternal life in Him.

After being cast out of heaven, Lucifer became the god of this world. He inhabits the earth and infects men with his wickedness. Satan might have a great influence on the physical world, but Pastor Jeff reminds us that Lucifer was a created being. He has no power, except that which God allows him to have, and one day Satan will be defeated.

Sadly, violence is so prevalent in our world today that it’s almost accepted as normal. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff points out that the reason for this increase in violence is evil in the world. This evil comes directly from Lucifer, the father of lies. Thankfully, through Bible study we can learn how to help others who are blinded by Satan, and overcome the spiritual wickedness in the world.

God created us with the freedom to make a choice. If you are a Christian, you have chosen to follow Jesus. But there are many who have not made this choice, and as a result, Satan has blinded their eyes. Today Pastor Jeff reminds Christians the power of intercessory prayer. Let us intercede for those who are held captive by the god of this world.
