Victory Over Diotrephes And The Flesh, Part 2

Paul encouraged the church of Philippi, to think on the things that are “true, noble, and pure”. Today on Sound Doctrine, we are encouraged by Pastor Jeff to do the same, and to have discernment about those who seek to divide. Remember, that the Bible calls Satan “the father of lies”, and he will use anything, including people to divide and conquer.

In the short, but powerful epistle of 3rd John, we see that the problems we experience in the church today, were the same problems the early church dealt with. Jesus warned of schisms that would rise up in the church, and we see this desire to divide, in a man named Diotrephes. Today, Pastor Jeff says that the spirit of Diotrephes is still in the church today, but our victory is in Christ.

God supplies the faith to each believer to do His work. But it’s up to the believer to put feet to that faith. Are we being obedient to what God has called us to do? Or is our faith lacking, and causing us to become disobedient? Today on Sound Doctrine, we’ll conclude our study entitled “Faith with Feet”, and see that God will supply all of our needs, if we will only take a step of faith.

In Matthew, Chapter 7 Jesus said “Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.” Today on Sound Doctrine, we begin a study entitled “Faith With Feet”, and Pastor Jeff reminds us, that without faith it’s impossible to please God. And the only way our faith will increase is by hearing His Word.

The Apostle John had many children in the faith, and one of them was Gaius. When John heard that Gaius was walking in the Truth, he rejoiced. Today Pastor Jeff encourages us to raise our children in the ways of God, and to walk in God’s Truth ourselves, so that they may follow.

Gaius was a man known to have a physical health problem. But because he walked in the Truth of God’s Word, he was balanced, strong, and joyful in the Spirit. Today, Pastor Jeff encourages us to walk in the Truth, and obtain the same joyful, balanced lifestyle Gaius had.

Many in this world are rich with materialism and physicality, but sadly they are poor spiritually. As we begin the book of 3rd John, we’ll learn of an individual named Gaius, who was quite the opposite. Gaius was spiritually rich towards God, but physically ill. Today Pastor Jeff says, that the sickness that comes upon believers, isn’t always the result of sin, as some say. But it is for God to be glorified in the believer’s life.

1 Timothy 1:4 says, “In the last days some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons.” There are many who have been deceived, and follow a gospel that contradicts the Word of God. Today, we’ll learn how to recognize these false doctrines, and what to do when confronted with them.

It’s important to support, and be hospitable to those who are spreading the Truth of the Gospel. But at the same time, we must be aware of the many who are spreading a false gospel. Today, we are encouraged by Pastor Jeff to support those who are spreading the Truth. But we are also given a warning, to not support a gospel contrary to the Word of God.

The Apostle John desired for his spiritual children to be full of Joy. Pastor Jeff reminds us today, that Gods Joy is something that the world can’t give or take away. If we take heed to the instruction of God’s Word, the joy of the Lord will be easily attained.
