Tyre & Future Desolation, Part 4

October 2, 2012
As we get into Isaiah 24, Pastor Jeff reminds us that the earth will not escape the judgment of the Lord. Isaiah prophesies that no man will be free from God’s punishment, except for those who believe in Him. As believers we know that death takes us immediately into God’s presence, but for unbelievers death brings immediate torment.

As we look through the promises of Scripture, again and again the Lord supports and upholds His people through troubles. We can take this as God’s promise that He will preserve us through the tribulation to come!

Throughout the centuries, the Lord has continually proven to nations that He is the Lord and that we should be following Him alone. In Isaiah, Tyre is a picture of materialism and commercialism — the people put their trust in earthly riches, and because of it, the Lord brought this great city its knees. Despite this period of darkness, Pastor Jeff reminds us that Tyre was restored to serve the Lord.

As we get deeper into our study of Isaiah, Pastor Jeff points out that these ancient cities represent different social and political matters. Isaiah foretold that these cities would fall because of their wickedness, and his prophecies apply to our own day as well. Money, status, organized religion, and other things occupy our society’s time and effort — but none of these things matter eternally.

We will never be self-sufficient, but the Lord often needs to remind us of this fact. When we allow other things in the world to take our attention off the Lord, He will bring us back to Himself. One way He does this is by bringing trials our way. When we try to solve our own problems, we only end up frustrated. In Isaiah, we find a warning to deal with situations by turning to the Lord for help first.

Thanks for joining us as we continue our study in Isaiah 22. Despite those critics who constantly ridicule the Bible, Pastor Jeff draws our attention to how discoveries in modern archaeology perfectly mirror what we find in Isaiah and other books of the Bible. In fact, many even use the Bible as a guidebook for their discoveries. Once again, we see that the Bible is the ultimate standard of truth!

The Scriptures say that the Lord will return as a “thief in the night.” We have no idea when He will appear, but we do know this: until the Lord comes back for His church, we will suffer tribulations. Pastor Jeff teaches us that if we pay close attention to the Scriptures, the Lord gives us clues regarding when He will return.

Hebrews 12:6 says, “the Lord disciplines those he loves, and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son." God’s judgment is not solely for punishment — it stems from His great love for us. When God corrects us, we should rejoice, knowing that He has accepted us as His children, and that He cares enough to keep us in line.

God’s love wasn’t only for the children of Israel — it is extended to the whole world! Pastor Jeff encourages us as believers to be salt and light. Instead of being content in our own salvation, we need to reach out to the ends of the earth, bringing God’s Word to others.

As believers, we need to commit to studying prophecy. It’s not just a gray area of Scripture that no one really understands. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff reminds us that prophecy makes up half of Scripture. This shows that prophecy is vital for believers. The fulfillment of prophecy is one of the greatest witnessing tools we have. Don’t neglect it!
September 19, 2012
God uses prophecy as a witnessing tool. He has informed us of coming events centuries before they occur, and He is always right. Satan, on the other hand, gives us signs and wonders, but they are made up of lies and deceit. Satan is not a prophet; but God is, and we can trust every word He says.
