To Know Him!, Part 1

March 6, 2013
“But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me”.  This portion of scripture found in Jeremiah is fitting for todays program.  In a message entitled “To Know Him”, Pastor Jeff points us in the direction, of knowing God by experience.  The only way we can know God in this way, is by first repenting of our sins, and receiving Christ in our lives.  As a result, we become His children, and enter into a loving relationship with our Creator.

What do you say when Satan comes to accuse you of your sins?  We must remember that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.  The Word of God is described as a sharp two-edged sword, and it will always put Satan down.

Romans 8:1 tells us that; “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit”.  Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff makes a distinction between Condemnation and Conviction.  Condemnation, he says, will push us further away from God, and that is one of Satan’s greatest goals, while conviction will draw us to God in a state of repentance.  We have a good God, and it is His goodness that leads us to repentance.

The Gospels record on a number of occasions that Jesus is praying for us.  We should take courage in this, knowing that we are sinners saved by grace.  What a Savior we have in Christ, who would not only shed His blood for us, but also become our advocate to the Father.

Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff will expound upon 1 John 1:9, a well-known scripture about confession and forgiveness.  But Pastor Jeff points out that confession must come from the heart, and it is not to be taken as a license to sin.

Paul told the Corinthians to examine themselves, to see if they were in the faith. Jeremiah declared in his day “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; it’s a fearful thing to realize we can fall into the pit of self deception.

The famous Christian Hymn says it all in its title “Nothing but the Blood” Its very simple:  Sin separates us from God, but the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from all sins.  In Christ, sins guilt and stain has been removed, and we have a clean slate before God.  There’s no other cleansing agent like the blood of Christ that can wash us white as snow.

In the book of Matthew Jesus made a soberingstatement. He said, “these people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, But their heart is far from Me. It is a sad situation when we see “Christians” caught up in this dilemma. Today pastor Jeff encourages us to “walk the talk”, and to beware of the blindness that comes from Religion.

Sadly, some Christians have just enough of Jesus to bemiserable, but not enough of Jesus to be joyful. As we continue our study through 1 John, we learn that John is writing his epistle, so that our “joy may be full.”

The word “know” in the Greek language is often definedas, having an intimate personal relationship with someone. This word is used many times in the bible, and it can make the very difference between having a relationship with God vs. a Religion of God.

Research shows that a specific ‘blood type’ can have alot to do with a person’s character traits. We can make an application from this to our spiritual lives. If we are truly born-again, and cleansed with the blood of Christ daily, we will have the characteristics of the Father.
