To Be Used by God, Part 3

August 22, 2012
Proverbs 16:18 says, “Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.” The Lord is able to do mighty works through men, but sometimes we make the mistake of thinking that we are more than just God’s instruments. Pastor Jeff warns us against this dangerous thought process. If you start taking credit for God’s work, He will bring you down.

Like Jonah and the prodigal son, when we run from the Lord, He chastises us until we turn back to Him. One thing that causes us to run from the Lord is pride. When we start thinking that we control our own lives, the Lord begins to work on us, proving that we are helpless and hopeless without Him.

When the Lord indwells us, the miracle doesn’t stop there! Instead, God’s blessing pours over us, and we are then able to minister to and bless others. However, sometimes we stubbornly resist what God asks of us; in this case, He uses whatever means necessary to bring us back to Him because He loves us.

There is a huge emphasis on peace these days. Some churches are even forsaking key elements of doctrine in order to appease other churches! As believers we are to have unity with other Christians — but not at the cost of ignoring the Bible. When Jesus sets up His kingdom on earth it will be righteous, and we should strive to live this way in preparation for His coming.

As believers, Christ dwells within us eternally. He inhabits a kingdom in our hearts, but one day Jesus will come and set up a literal, physical kingdom on earth where we will rule with Him. But first, He will come to rapture His people. Right now we do God’s work as we wait for the fulfillment of the next prophecy: His Son’s second coming.

As we get into part two of our study, Pastor Jeff explains that the true light at the end of the tunnel is Jesus Christ. We don’t know how long we have to wait in this world, but we do know that, at the end, Christ will take us up and welcome us into glory.

God loves His children and constantly seeks to guide, protect, and teach us. He knows the most important lessons we need to learn, and He will sometimes put us through trials in order to help us grow and mature in the faith. Like Israel, we often learn the hard way — but be encouraged! God loves us, and His discipline is for our own good.

1 Timothy 4:1 says, “But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons.” Often we neglect to realize the seriousness of the supernatural interest these days, but the Scriptures clearly warn us against it! Any activity that isn’t grounded in the Word of God is off limits for us.

Isaiah 8 is full of warnings. Here, the prophet talks about those men who did signs and wonders, much like God did through the prophets. However, these individuals get their power from Satan, not from the Lord. Likewise, Pastor Jeff warns us against the pull of demonic activity in the world today. Many people seek answers through this type of spiritism, but God warns His people against such apostasy.

God is Love, but He is also Judgment. He will save those who keep His Word; but those who turn against Him and ignore His promises will reap everlasting torment. In Romans, Paul encouraged the believers to be ready for the Lord’s coming. If he was admonishing the believers so long ago, how much more should we prepare now? Don’t postpone your service to the Lord. Get right with Him today, and let your life be a witness to those around you.

The world was dark during Isaiah’s time; but we live in that same world today! People are hard-hearted and full of hate towards God. Isaiah brought the Word, but it was not received; much like the Word of God is rejected today. In our study, Pastor Jeff exhorts us as believers to embrace the Scriptures.
