Thy Kingdom Come, Part 1

June 6, 2014
Most people have heard the Lord's prayer in Matthew. Chapter 6. In it, Jesus includes the words "Thy Kingdom Come."  These are the words we will focus on today.  Pastor Jeff says the kingdom of God is not yet on this earth; rather it is in the hearts of those who believe and follow Jesus.  But there will come a day when the kingdom of God will literally come on this earth.

We've studied the 2 witnesses in Revelation 11 and learned about their super-natural ministry.  Even death cannot hold these witnesses down.  Pastor Jeff reminds us today, that the same is true if you're a follower of Christ.  The Bible says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."

All who believe and trust in Christ are made alive through Him.  And because of the cross, the fear of death is eliminated.  In Philippians 1:21 Paul said, "For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain."  Is this a reality in your life?  If it's not, God wants to set you free from the bondage and fear that death brings, by giving you faith that comes from hearing His Word.  We'll hear more about this on today's edition of Sound Doctrine.

The Bible says, "All who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution."  This becomes more of a reality as we become God's witnesses.  Today on Sound Doctrine, we'll continue to learn about the persecution of the 2 witnesses in Revelation.

2 Peter 3:10 explains God's Love. It says "God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." God proclaims the message of repentance through faithful and willing witnesses. We see it in the Bible with Isaiah, John the Baptist, and the Apostles. He will use anybody with a willing and repentant heart. Today we'll take a look at Revelation Chapter 11 and learn that God will still use His witnesses in the Great Tribulation. Stay tuned for more on Sound Doctrine.

The Temple of God: It's of great signficance both to Jews and Christians. Why? Because it's the place where God dwells. But the death and resurrection of Christ makes an important distiction with the temple. The New Testament explains that God no longer dwells within a building, but within believers. 2 Corinthians 5:16 says "For you are the temple of the living God.  As God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

Today in the nation of Israel you will discover that the Jews are anticipating a rebuilt temple. In fact, preparations are just about ready. But there's one major problem. Who's land will the rebuilt temple belong to? The Jews or the Arabs? This has been an ongoing conflict since the time of Isaac and Ishmael. Today Pastor Jeff explains that this conflict may pave the way for the anti-christ to come and offer a solution of reconciliation. Could a rebuilt temple be the center of the solution?

Throughout Israels history, the temple of God has been the central focal point. In times past it has been built and destroyed. However, Revelation chapter eleven gives an important clue that the temple will one day stand again. So why is the temple so important? Because it's known to be the place where man can enter God's presence. But this all changed 2,000 years ago when Jesus gave himself for the sins of the world. This opened up the presence of God to be available at any time, any place, through Jesus our Messiah.

Why does the Bible promise tribulation? And why does it say to be joyful in these troubled times? Well, as we'll discover today on Sound Doctrine, tribulations come to bring forth God's glory in our lives. There is a sweetness that comes out of these trying times. As the old servant Job said, "He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold."
