The Word of Warning, Part 2

August 9, 2012
God is Love, but He is also Judgment. He will save those who keep His Word; but those who turn against Him and ignore His promises will reap everlasting torment. In Romans, Paul encouraged the believers to be ready for the Lord’s coming. If he was admonishing the believers so long ago, how much more should we prepare now? Don’t postpone your service to the Lord. Get right with Him today, and let your life be a witness to those around you.

The world was dark during Isaiah’s time; but we live in that same world today! People are hard-hearted and full of hate towards God. Isaiah brought the Word, but it was not received; much like the Word of God is rejected today. In our study, Pastor Jeff exhorts us as believers to embrace the Scriptures.

Christ’s death broke the bond that sin has over us, and we are no longer slaves to our human nature. He has freed us from our bondage, and given us power above and beyond ourselves. Instead of fearing what man can do to us, we have stability in our Lord, Immanuel, who is always with us.

When we allow ourselves to doubt, the enemy robs us of God’s blessings. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff tells us that faith is our number one obligation to the Lord. In Isaiah 7:14, the prophet calls Jesus “Immanuel,” which means “God with us.” Jesus’ very name embodies faithfulness. Should we not also be faithful to him?

Sometimes we organize our lives exactly how we want them, and then we get so frustrated when our plans go awry. As we get into Isaiah 7, Pastor Jeff reminds us that God requires us to have faith! Instead of clinging to our own desires, we need to let go and trust that God will lead us according to His perfect will, even if that means forsaking our own devices.

God requires us to purge ourselves of sins in order to be used of Him. When we replace our worldly desires with God’s desires, He will start to cleanse and purify our lives. We will start seeking after things that please the Lord, and He will align our will with His!

Being saved doesn’t automatically mean that we are serving the Lord with our whole hearts. This is something we have to work on daily. There is great blessing in going before the Lord. There always seems to be a good reason to skip church or Bible study, but Pastor Jeff exhorts us to make worship a priority! By doing so, God will reveal our secret sins and faults, and allow us to repent and come before Him blameless.

Sometimes God sends tribulations our way. Weathering these problems helps us to develop strong, godly characters. The most important thing we can do during these tough days is turn our eyes upon Jesus. When we keep our minds firmly fixed on Him, our faith is strengthened, and we can in turn help others who are struggling.

Sin removes us from our heavenly Father. Sadly, our nation has replaced God’s morality and rules for man’s rules. Instead of measuring everything against God’s standards, man makes his own. Be careful not to get sucked into the reasoning of the world. God’s standard is the only one that matters.

Galations 6:7 says, “Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows.” Here we learn that we will have to answer to God for all of our actions. As believers, we have no excuse. We know what the Word says, and we will be held accountable to God if we deliberately transgress His commandments.

Deuteronomy 8:11 says, “Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God.” Do you tend to coast along when your life gets comfortable? Israel had the same problem. They forgot how the Lord protected and provided for them, and they began to rely on their own strength. Don’t let this happen to you! Keep listening to hear more truth from God’s Word.
