The Temple of God, Part 3

May 28, 2014
The Temple of God: It's of great signficance both to Jews and Christians. Why? Because it's the place where God dwells. But the death and resurrection of Christ makes an important distiction with the temple. The New Testament explains that God no longer dwells within a building, but within believers. 2 Corinthians 5:16 says "For you are the temple of the living God.  As God has said: "I will dwell in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they shall be my people."

Today in the nation of Israel you will discover that the Jews are anticipating a rebuilt temple. In fact, preparations are just about ready. But there's one major problem. Who's land will the rebuilt temple belong to? The Jews or the Arabs? This has been an ongoing conflict since the time of Isaac and Ishmael. Today Pastor Jeff explains that this conflict may pave the way for the anti-christ to come and offer a solution of reconciliation. Could a rebuilt temple be the center of the solution?

Throughout Israels history, the temple of God has been the central focal point. In times past it has been built and destroyed. However, Revelation chapter eleven gives an important clue that the temple will one day stand again. So why is the temple so important? Because it's known to be the place where man can enter God's presence. But this all changed 2,000 years ago when Jesus gave himself for the sins of the world. This opened up the presence of God to be available at any time, any place, through Jesus our Messiah.

Why does the Bible promise tribulation? And why does it say to be joyful in these troubled times? Well, as we'll discover today on Sound Doctrine, tribulations come to bring forth God's glory in our lives. There is a sweetness that comes out of these trying times. As the old servant Job said, "He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold."

Just as our physical bodies need food to survive, our spirit needs to be fed daily with the Word of God. The Word of God is described as sweet when taken in, yet at times it convicts, reproves and reveals the things that need to be changed in our lives. Today we'll continue our study called "The Bittersweet of God" and Pastor Jeff will explain more on the importance of taking in God's Word daily.

In the gospel of John, Chapter 16:33 Jesus said, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."  This is the bittersweet of God.  We know that we will have trouble in this world, but we can have peace because He Loves us, and He is in complete control.  Today we'll continue our study through Revelation, and learn more about the bittersweet of God.

God Loves this world and each person in it.  2 Peter 3:10 says "He is longsuffering towards us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.  The Bible also explains that it's "the goodness of the Lord that leads to repentance."  Today we'll conclude Part 1 of our study entitled "The Bittersweet of God" and Pastor Jeff reminds us of the soon return of Christ, and the need to get right with Him in these last days.

When Jesus came on the scene He was called the Lamb of God.  He was then sacrificed for the sins of the world, making a way for sinful man to come into Gods presence.  But Jesus will one day return, not as a lamb, but as a roaring lion.  We'll continue this thought on todays program as Pastor Jeff delivers part 2 of the message called "The Bittersweet of God" on Sound Doctrine.

The ministry of angels is frequently at work, especially in the life of a believer.  Hebrews 4:14 says "Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?"  And as Dr. Billy Graham once said "angels are God's secret agents.  They are ministering servants, protecting, delivering, and sometimes guiding."  We'll here more about this as Pastor Jeff describes a certain angel found in Revelation chapter 10.

The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; and all things have become new."  This newness of life begins when we receive Christ.  And because He conquered death, there is no sting in our death.  However, many have not received this free gift and this means the sting of death is still a reality.  Pastor Jeff will explain today the importance of repenting and receiving Christ as Lord.

Repentence is a key part of the Christian life.  And yet the further we go on without repenting, the harder our hearts become. Today we'll resume our study in Revelation, and learn first hand the consequences of not repenting. Stay tuned for more as we pick up in verse 14 of Revelation, Chapter 9.
