The Need for Evangelism, Part 3

May 17, 2012
We can’t possibly go even one day without sinning. If we were forced to live according to the Law, we could never survive. Our sins would bring us certain death. However, through His mercy, God forgives all our sins and removes them as far as the east is from the west.

Sadly, there are many sincere individuals who seek to spread the gospel, but they are misled. Many cults even claim to know Jesus Christ. John Calvin once said, “Zeal without knowledge is like a sword in the hand of a fool.” These groups believe in their causes, but they are deceived. We need to be careful not to fall prey to these false prophets.

God gives us the responsibility of sharing His good news with those around us. Don’t underestimate the power of your personal testimony on other people’s lives. Let Jesus show Himself through you, and minister to your unsaved family, friends, co-workers, and anyone else that God places in your path.

Our whole relationship with God can be defined by mercy. Hebrews 9:22 says that “without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Christ’s blood was shed on our behalf, and God’s mercy has allowed us to be redeemed. When Christ comes back to judge the earth, our slates will be clean because of God’s mercy.

To whom does God offer His free grace? He gives it to everyone! But we must remember what it cost Christ. He was the only truly innocent man on earth, yet He was made sin for us. We never could have done this ourselves. Jesus’ death removed our guilt and corruption, and now we have eternal hope in Him.

As we begin the book of Romans, Pastor Jeff reminds us how important it is for us to lay our faith on solid ground. Maturing in our walk with the Lord isn’t easy, but when we grow close to Him and have that firm foundation, He does amazing work in our lives.

Paul had the right attitude about witnessing to others. Pastor Jeff reminds us that we are here to share the gospel so that others can be saved. When you’re discouraged, remember Paul’s example. He constantly asked for prayer. Don’t be afraid to do the same thing. Through prayer, the Lord lifts us up and enables us to do His work.

One of Paul’s strongest attributes was his commitment. Pastor Jeff encourages us to be committed to loving the Lord and doing His will. Yes, we will endure trials — Paul certainly did! But we can take comfort in the Lord’s promises.

One thing we learn from Ephesians is that Paul had faithful men whom he trusted to help spread the gospel and support him in his ministry. These men often went off to pastor their own churches! Let Paul be our example — he surrounded himself with faithful men of God. Likewise, we should surround ourselves with godly companions!

Have you ever thought about how faithfully Paul served the Lord, even from prison? In today’s study, Pastor Jeff explains how strong Paul’s ministry was, even when he was in chains. Paul didn’t fear what man would do to him — he only feared Christ. Let Paul be our example of a fearless ambassador for Christ.
