Spiritual Warfare, Part 1a

February 10, 2012
Don’t be ignorant of the wiles of the devil. He knows your weaknesses and he preys on them! Pastor Jeff encourages us to be armed against attacks from the enemy by immersing ourselves in the Word of God. We were dead in our sins, but God has awakened us to life in Him.

Do you struggle with an unpleasant boss or a hostile work environment? Your attitude might suffer as a result. Pastor Jeff reminds us that our attitudes are extremely important in the workplace. Don’t forget that many times your example is the best way to witness to others. Work as unto the Lord, and He will give you a light heart and a good attitude.

On the job, your time belongs to your employer. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff encourages us not to fritter that time away, but to use it to the fullest. However, don’t forget your relationship with the Lord! Reading your Bible on break, witnessing through you actions, and sharing with your co-workers are just a few of the ways you can honor the Lord, even while working in an unchristian environment.

Are you doing a half-hearted job at your workplace? As we continue our study on employee/employer relationships, Pastor Jeff warns us not to grow lazy on the job. Do your work as unto the Lord, and your cheerful attitude and diligence will be a witness to your boss and co-workers.

Colossians 3:22 says, “Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God.” Pastor Jeff reminds us that our work is to be unto Him alone, not our boss or our co-workers.

As we continue our study about relationships and the workplace, Pastor Jeff cites the example of David and Saul. Though these men were at odds, David refused to harm God’s anointed. Let David be your example. Don’t get involved in disagreements and quarrels. Honor the Lord through your actions, and those around you will take notice.

The most important thing in your life is your relationship with Jesus Christ. Today, Pastor Jeff emphasizes that we don’t have religion; we have a relationship. As we start talking about the work place, we must realize that our relationships in the home set the foundation for our relationships outside the home.

Parents are the key to a loving and disciplined environment in the home. As we continue our study on the home, Pastor Jeff reminds mothers and fathers that affection, fairness, and firm, consistent discipline is vital for children’s well being. Protect your children from themselves and from the unwise decisions they inevitably make.

In Psalm 51:5 David says, “Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me.” In today’s study, Pastor Jeff reminds us that we are all born with a sin nature, which is why the parents’ roles are so vital. But some of us didn’t grow up with godly parents. Paul encourages us to respect and honor our parents, no matter what our age.

Parents have a huge responsibility when it comes to raising their kids. As we get into Ephesians 6:4, Pastor Jeff explains that the mother and father each have unique and fulfilling roles as parents. Sadly, many couples today are choosing not to have children. Yes, many trials come with parenthood; but God says that the “fruit of the womb is His reward.”

Have you ever been confused about how to correct your children? The Bible warns parents to discipline their children carefully. But this chastisement is not about violence. It’s about wisdom. Pastor Jeff admonishes parents to administer correction to their children for the right reasons — a desire for that child to learn obedience and God’s love.
