What Prophecy Promises, Part 3

January 18, 2013
As far back as Daniel, the Scriptures reveal that Christ would be crucified for the sins of the world; yet many nowadays still wait for the return of the Messiah. They are under the bondage of the Law, but we know that Christ has already come to earth once, and we eagerly await His return. But even now we can experience the blessings and comfort of Christ here on earth.

Despite all the troubles that Israel experienced because of her disobedience, one of the main themes running through Isaiah is that God will preserve Israel. Yes, they suffered desolation and captivity, but Isaiah continually repeats God’s promise to deliver His people in the future. In Isaiah 60, Isaiah paints a picture of Israel returning to Jerusalem, just as God said. Be encouraged by this — God is a loving Father who keeps his promises to His children.

The book of Isaiah brings us some of God’s greatest promises in Scripture. One of these is the promise that the Light has come. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, has arrived and He has sworn to save His people Israel. We are encouraged knowing that Jesus has come not only to save Israel, but everyone who believes in Him.

Prayer is one of the most important parts of a believer’s life. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing.” If your prayers are not effectual, there’s a problem. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff gives us the solution to a failing prayer life. Simply put, we must repent. When we have active sin in our lives, we cannot have fellowship with the Father. We must confess, and Christ will immediately cleanse and forgive us.

Are you a blessing or a curse to those around you? Until we are filled with Christ, we cannot hope to minister to those around us. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff tells us that we need to take in the living waters of Christ so that we can be filled and overflow onto those around us. When we delight in the Lord, He will bless us.

After years of serving in the ministry, we can become calloused to the things of the Lord, and we lose that fire we had when we first got saved. When we get comfortable, we tend to kick back and stop trying. Today, Pastor Jeff warns us against being “lukewarm” Christians. Be careful that you don’t get stuck in a rut!

Isaiah sets a wonderful example for us. Even amidst a wicked nation, he stood up for righteousness. In the same way, we need to be bold for Christ. In a country that aborts unborn children and worships money and material wealth above all else, we must be willing to take a stand for holiness. God’s Word should be our only standard.

As Christians, the church is a place for rejuvenation and reaching out. We go to be refreshed in the Spirit, and strengthened in our walk with God. It’s also a place for evangelism. How many times have you invited someone to church or to a Bible study? We aren’t always perfect witnesses, but when we bring someone into the fellowship of the believers, we can see God do His perfect work.

Unlike anything else, the Bible relates to us just as well now as it did for those hundreds and even thousands of years ago. As believers, we have hope in the Scriptures. We see God’s prophecies fulfilled thousands of years ago, and also still being fulfilled today. Additionally, despite the crazy world we live in, God’s Word gives us a glimpse of the true peace we will experience in heaven.

Sometimes we think we’re yielded to God’s will, but in fact we’re just stubbornly following our own inclinations. The Lord says that “His ways are not our ways, and His thoughts are not our thoughts.” Our best-laid plans are nothing compared to what God has in mind. We should take comfort in the fact that no matter how good our ideas are, God always has something better for us.

Salvation is free, and God only asks that we give our lives over to Him. Are you willing to give Him everything? Or will you insist on going your own way? In today’s study, Pastor Jeff reminds us that Christ is the “fount of living waters.” We can only be satisfied when we drink from Him, and when we are hungry, we should feast on the Word of God.
