Sin Enslaves, Part 2

March 4, 2015
Jesus declared in John 8:34-36 "Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.  And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.  Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed!"  We have been liberated from the bondage of sin, yet many people still seem enslaved to it.  We'll talk more about this in 2 Kings chapter 17, next on Sound Doctrine.

When driving down any highly populated city, you can see a brown haze hovering over the town; that brown haze is pollution.  This polluted air blocks out the sky and chocks out clean air.  Sin is just like pollution.  It chocks out the Word of God and blocks you from seeing things as they truly are.  Today on Sound Doctrine Pastor Jeff examines 2 Kings 17 and the sin that enslaved a nation.

In Song Of Solomon chapter 2 verse 15 it says, "Catch us the foxes, the little foxes that spoil the vines, for our vines have tender grapes."  These little foxes are compromises in our life that get in and destroy the fruit the Holy Spirit has been working in us.  Today Pastor Jeff concludes His teaching on King Ahaz and the compromises that crept into his life, that lead him down a destructive path.

Jesus spoke directly to the church of Laodicea in Revelation 3 saying "I know your works, that you are neither cold or hot.  So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth."  Compromise in a Christian life will eventually pave the way for death.  Pastor Jeff talks about the dangers of compromise next on Sound Doctrine.

To create an analogy of sin, the apostle Paul said "a little leaven leavens the whole lump."  It doesn't matter how well people hide it, sin will always come back to destroy.  We'll learn more about this today as we study an Old Testament king named Ahaz.

Discipline with love is necessary to steer a child in the right direction.  Without this, a child will soon loose control.  The same is true with God and His children.  At times, Christians drift away from God ordained paths, and very often God will chasten those He loves.  Pastor Jeff talks more about this in the conclusion of message called "To Obey And Go The Right Way."

The wisdom of Proverbs 3 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your paths."  When we trust and obey God's voice, we are in a safe position.  However, when we disobey, we are in more danger than we think.  Pastor Jeff talks more about this in our study titled "To Obey And Go The Right Way."

Obedience Is better than sacrfice.  God's desire for His children is to trust and obey Him.  Today, we will continue our verse-by-verse venture through 2 Kings, and Pastor Jeff exhorts us to trust in the Lord with all of our hearts.

God continually offers His hand of guidance, provision, and blessings.  But He won't force it upon anyone.  He gives a choice to follow and obey Him or to go our own way.  Today Pastor Jeff encourages his listeners to follow in the ways of the Lord and allow Him to work miracles in our lives.

The book of James explains the destructive pattern of sin.  He says, "Each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.  Then, when desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, brings forth death."  We'll learn more about the dangers of this pattern from our study in 2 Kings chapter 14.

As we've been studying the historical book of 2 Kings, we've learned about the good and bad kings.  Destruction came to those who were lifted up with pride.  But God blessed those who feared Him and walked in His ways.  Today Pastor Jeff exhorts us to stay in the center of God's will and not to stray away into our own.
