Palm Sunday

The Word of God is alive. It has the power to speak to us individually every time we read, or hear it. But pastor Jeff says, we have a choice, to either accept or reject it. In Zechariah, Chapter 9 verse 9, we find a powerful prophecy concerning the coming of the Messiah, making His entrance by way of a donkey. Hundreds of years later, Jesus would fulfill this prophecy, by presenting Himself as the Messiah to the people of Israel, in what is known as the triumphal entry.

In our journey through 1 John, we are learning the importance of Christian growth. In the physical realm, growth usually occurs without much effort on our part, but such is not the case with spiritual growth. There are different stages in the Christian life, and in each stage there is a blessing to be enjoyed. But little children need to become young men, and young men need to become fathers.

The Christian life has many things in common with physical life. There are different stages in both physical life, and spiritual life. But it is only through “growth” that one passes from one stage to another.

1 Corinthians 13 is often identified as the Love Chapter, and in verse 4 we read, “Love suffers long, and is kind”. This is God’s Love. If we want to experience and give out this kind of Love, we need to walk in His light. The more we walk in the light, the more Love we can give out.

How do we contend with darkness? It’s simple, turn on the Light. If we want to be effective Christians, we need God’s light to shine through us. But before we start walking in the light, we need to walk in forgiveness, both from God, and for the people around us.
March 14, 2013
There are several benefits that come from walking in the light, but today Pastor Jeff will focus on what it looks like when someone is walking in the light. If we’re truly in His light, Love will follow.

“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. During His time on earth, Jesus left us an example of God’s Love. It is a sacrificial love, which gives expecting nothing in return. As we conclude our study entitled “Love Never Changes”, Pastor Jeff says, “If we live in Him, we should also love in Him.

Over time, the word “Love” in our English vocabulary has lost value and meaning. The same word expressed to our spouse, can be used to describe our favorite food. Today on Sound Doctrine, we learn of God’s Love. A sacrificial Love, that never changes. God so loved the world that He gave His Son.

Jesus said, “If you love Me, obey My Commandments”.  If we’re seeking to please God, we must obey Him.  The book of James puts it this way when it says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.  Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff says, “our greatest need is to know our Creator”.

Having a knowledge of God needs to be more than intellectual.  It is should be experiential.  As we continue our verse-by-verse study through 1 John, John confronts us with what it really means to know God.  If we know Him, we should seek to obey Him, and Pastor Jeff says the result of this, will bring pleasure to our God.

“But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me”.  This portion of scripture found in Jeremiah is fitting for todays program.  In a message entitled “To Know Him”, Pastor Jeff points us in the direction, of knowing God by experience.  The only way we can know God in this way, is by first repenting of our sins, and receiving Christ in our lives.  As a result, we become His children, and enter into a loving relationship with our Creator.
