No Peace for the Wicked! Part 3

December 10, 2012
Do you commit yourself to spending uninterrupted time with the Lord? In order to hear His voice, we must discipline ourselves to be listening for it. As we draw closer to the Lord, we become more sensitive to His leading. That way, even when we suffer trials and temptations, we will be able to yield to His voice.

Numbers 32:23 says, “You may be sure that your sin will find you out.” As we continue our study in Isaiah, Pastor Jeff warns us against trying to hide our wrongdoings. Sometimes we sin, thinking that no one will notice or be affected. But in seeking to cover up these little sins, we are drawn into greater sin, separating ourselves from our heavenly Father. Don’t allow your pride to get in the way of repentance.

Once again, Isaiah shows that he is truly a prophet under God’s direction, and he records prophesies about nations that would not come to pass for hundreds of years! Pastor Jeff tells us that perhaps Isaiah didn’t understand every aspect of these prophecies, but He allowed Himself to be used of God. Through Isaiah’s words, we see God’s omniscience more clearly than ever.

Psalm 136:26 says, “Give thanks to the God of heaven, for his steadfast love endures forever.” We will never understand the love that God has for us. Scriptures compare His love for us to that of a woman for her child. No matter what, God’s love for us will never fade, and everything He does for us is motivated by that great love.

People often ask, “Why do bad things happen to good people?” As believers, we know that questioning God is futile. We don’t always know why God allows trials and tribulations in our lives, but we do know that His wisdom is infinite, and He will work everything out for our own good.

As we get into Isaiah 45, we see God’s great power manifested in His incredible foretelling of future events. But Isaiah is more than just a book of prophecy. Isaiah is all about hope. As we study, we see how God led His people throughout history, and we know that He is doing the same thing for us right now.

As we continue our study “The Idiocy of Idolatry,” God shows how foolish idolatry is. In Isaiah’s time the people worshipped man-made idols of wood or clay, but today our gods take a more subtle form — a job, a car, money, or even family can become idols. When we begin to esteem anything more highly than we esteem God, we are sinning. Keep God first in your life!

Though many nations worship other idols and gods, here in Isaiah 43 God declares that He is the only deity worth reverencing. Throughout history there have been thousands of other religions and gods, yet we know there is only one true way to have salvation and eternal life — faith in Jesus Christ. Our love and loyalty should be for Christ alone — all other gods are futile.

In Isaiah 43, God assures His people that He has not cast them away. Israel turned away from the Lord, and at times even worshipped other man-made idols! Nevertheless, God honored His promises to them, and He has protected them and guided them starting in Genesis and continuing through to present day.

We serve a just God. Yes, He loves us and nurtures us, but when we drift away and stop following Him, we suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, and any number of unsettling emotions. God’s desire is for us to be at peace. In order to have this peace, we need to turn back to Him. Thankfully, He is longsuffering, and He promises forgiveness to those who seek it from Him.

As we heard last time, God knows that we are quick to become disheartened. He loves to pour blessings and comfort into us so that we can become encouraged and in turn, bless others. In His wisdom, God has created this perfect process whereby we can all be fortified and refreshed in the Spirit.
