Love Never Changes

March 12, 2013
“Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends”. During His time on earth, Jesus left us an example of God’s Love. It is a sacrificial love, which gives expecting nothing in return. As we conclude our study entitled “Love Never Changes”, Pastor Jeff says, “If we live in Him, we should also love in Him.

Over time, the word “Love” in our English vocabulary has lost value and meaning. The same word expressed to our spouse, can be used to describe our favorite food. Today on Sound Doctrine, we learn of God’s Love. A sacrificial Love, that never changes. God so loved the world that He gave His Son.

Jesus said, “If you love Me, obey My Commandments”.  If we’re seeking to please God, we must obey Him.  The book of James puts it this way when it says, “Therefore, to him who knows to do good and does not do it, to him it is sin.  Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff says, “our greatest need is to know our Creator”.

Having a knowledge of God needs to be more than intellectual.  It is should be experiential.  As we continue our verse-by-verse study through 1 John, John confronts us with what it really means to know God.  If we know Him, we should seek to obey Him, and Pastor Jeff says the result of this, will bring pleasure to our God.

“But let him who glories glory in this, that he understands and knows Me”.  This portion of scripture found in Jeremiah is fitting for todays program.  In a message entitled “To Know Him”, Pastor Jeff points us in the direction, of knowing God by experience.  The only way we can know God in this way, is by first repenting of our sins, and receiving Christ in our lives.  As a result, we become His children, and enter into a loving relationship with our Creator.

What do you say when Satan comes to accuse you of your sins?  We must remember that the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds.  The Word of God is described as a sharp two-edged sword, and it will always put Satan down.

Romans 8:1 tells us that; “there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit”.  Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff makes a distinction between Condemnation and Conviction.  Condemnation, he says, will push us further away from God, and that is one of Satan’s greatest goals, while conviction will draw us to God in a state of repentance.  We have a good God, and it is His goodness that leads us to repentance.

The Gospels record on a number of occasions that Jesus is praying for us.  We should take courage in this, knowing that we are sinners saved by grace.  What a Savior we have in Christ, who would not only shed His blood for us, but also become our advocate to the Father.

Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff will expound upon 1 John 1:9, a well-known scripture about confession and forgiveness.  But Pastor Jeff points out that confession must come from the heart, and it is not to be taken as a license to sin.

Paul told the Corinthians to examine themselves, to see if they were in the faith. Jeremiah declared in his day “the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; it’s a fearful thing to realize we can fall into the pit of self deception.

The famous Christian Hymn says it all in its title “Nothing but the Blood” Its very simple:  Sin separates us from God, but the blood of Jesus can cleanse us from all sins.  In Christ, sins guilt and stain has been removed, and we have a clean slate before God.  There’s no other cleansing agent like the blood of Christ that can wash us white as snow.
