Introduction to Isaiah, Part 4

July 10, 2012
Sadly, many churches today aren’t teaching the true Word of God. They’ve strayed from the literal words of the Bible, and gone on to create their own teachings. These might be loosely based on the Bible, but as believers, we know that’s not good enough. Every word in the Bible is infallible and perfect, just as God intended.

Where does it say that living the Christian life is easy? With salvation comes trials and tribulations. But God also gives us the ability to endure these hardships, and He strengthens us through them. Today, Pastor Jeff gives us the examples of Isaiah and Hezekiah, two prophets of the Lord who underwent great hardships, and also learned not to negotiate with the Lord.

Do you ever bypass the Old Testament because you think it’s not as important as the New Testament? Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff encourages us to study the Old Testament. The prophets give us insight into God’s plans for the future. We should find comfort in these prophecies! We can count on them to be true because they come directly from the mouth of God.

Do you truly understand the grace of God? He has plans for each one of us, but until we accept the nature of His grace, God won’t be able to use us. We must humbly accept our weaknesses, and realize that only through God’s grace can we accomplish anything! He will open doors and lift us up.

James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” The Lord doesn’t want us to be proud; instead, He specifically tells us to be meek and humble before Him. In doing this, we will be exalted! In addition, Pastor Jeff warns us against seeking to please the world. Our only concern should be if we are pleasing the Lord! It can’t get much simpler than that.

As we near the end of 2 Thessalonians, Paul exhorts the believers to recognize that disobedient brothers and sisters are not the enemy — Satan is. We shouldn’t turn against these people. Instead, we should seek to lovingly approach them and bring them back into the fold, always making sure that our motives are pure!

God has set the church up as a government over the body of Christ. As such, the Bible clearly states that the church is responsible for disciplining those who are disobedient to Christ! In today’s study, Pastor Jeff gives us Paul’s five practical reasons for church discipline. This topic is vital for every believer to be familiar with.

God doesn’t give us orders lightly. In today’s study, Paul rebukes the Thessalonians who were neglecting the poor and less fortunate among them. They weren’t following God’s orders. Pastor Jeff encourages us to reach out and help those who are hurting. Instead of being lazy and ignoring God’s commands, we must pay close attention to the directions God gives us in His Word.

Are you willing to work? In today’s study, Pastor Jeff differentiates between those who can work and those who just won’t work. Have a care that you don’t judge people unfairly! But God does require that those who are physically and mentally able apply themselves diligently to whatever work they have before them. One such way we work is by sharing the gospel with others around us.

God commands us to be holy no matter what situation we’re in. Sometimes this means that we won’t be able to do the same things our companions are doing. When we aren’t profitably occupied, we run the risk of falling into idle or even wicked activities. Don’t allow this to happen to you — occupy till the Lord comes with things that please Him.
