Give Me Liberty, Let Me Die! Part 3

The bible teaches that where the spirit of the Lord is, there is Liberty.  Freedom from sin and death, come by way of dying to self. We pick up todays lesson with Pastor Jeff talking about, how the Law of the Lord is perfect and never passing away. This doesn’t mean we are under the Law, but covered by Christ, who fulfilled the Law and through Him, Liberty is given to us as His Spirit entered us! The great American attorney of the 1700’s is quoted as saying, “Give me liberty, or give me death!” Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff begins Romans Chapter 7, and the topic is Liberty. But the freedom that Pastor Jeff will be teaching about, comes from dying to self. He will teach us that, its in Christ that freedom reigns. Today, we are completing Romans Chapter 6. And Pastor Jeff has been teaching us about choice! When God created humans, He gave us a free will to choose Him, or not. This is a choice that He will honor. We pick up with Pastor Jeff, as he is explaining it’s not about performing works that please Him, but our choice to obey Him, that is pleasing to Him. The old puritan preacher Thomas Watson is quoted saying, “It is obeying God willingly, that is accepted; the Lord hates that which is forced. Cain is a good example of this.” Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff continues in his study on choosing to serve the Lord whole hardily, in the second half of the message, “You Gotta Serve Somebody.”

In the book of Joshua, Joshua proposed a very important question to the children of Israel, “Choose who you are going to serve!” This question is still relevant today, as it was thousands of years ago. This resolve is a life long decision, which will bless you and give you purpose. We have all made resolutions in our life. But how many of us actually keep them. Today on Sound Doctrine, Pastor Jeff will be teaching us about a spiritual resolution from Romans ch. 6. This resolve is to count your self dead to your former life of sin, and yield to the new life in Christ. We pick up todays lesson in Romans chapter 6 verse 11, in the study called, “The Key is Your Resolution.”

We have been in a series learning about the freedom of choice.  God has given humanity a free will to choose how we lead our lives. When Jesus said, if you die you live, and if you live you die. He wasn’t speaking about the physical life; He was referring to the eternal. We are in Romans Chapter 6 with the conclusion of the series, “Its Your Choice, Who Your Gonna Serve?"

The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ has made us free. But free from what? We are in Romans chapter 6, learning about the freedom we have to choose not to sin!
