Be A Good Soldier, Part 2

July 19, 2013

Jesus said in the book of Matthew to “Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravenous wolves.” This became a reality as Jude wrote his epistle, but today we still see many who seek to destroy the church with their poisonous teachings. With the 2nd part of his message “Be A Good Soldier”, Pastor Jeff encourages us to use our spiritual weapons, and fight against these apostates

The apostates, and corrupt spiritual leaders, are just a few things the book of Jude deals with. Many have turned from the church, and forsaken their faith, and their one goal is to deceive the church from within, using their false doctrine. Today, Pastor Jeff begins his verse-by-verse study through book of Jude, and says, “Jude’s message is needed in these last days”, because it teaches us to fight and contend for our faith

The Bible says, “Christ in us, is the hope of glory.”  Many in this world will never read a Bible, or attend a church service; but they can see Jesus and hear the saving hope He offers, by watching those who follow Him.  If we claim to be a follower of Christ, we must realize that we are representing Him, to the many who are watching closely.

When we see the many who seek to divide the church, our hearts can easily be filled with anxiety.  But when we keep our eyes on Jesus, we experience His Peace that passes understanding.  Today, Pastor Jeff says to keep our eyes focused on Jesus, and the many examples that come from His Word.

In the Old Testament book of 1 Samuel, God ordered King Saul to destroy the Amalekites.  But Saul chose to disobey, and save Agag, the king of the Amalekites.  Sadly, at the end of Saul’s life, he would be killed and destroyed, by none other then an Amalekite.  Today, Pastor Jeff says “the Amalekites symbolize our flesh”, and if we are not careful, our flesh will overcome us.  But when we are obedient to the Lord, we will have victory over the flesh.

Paul encouraged the church of Philippi, to think on the things that are “true, noble, and pure”.  Today on Sound Doctrine, we are encouraged by Pastor Jeff to do the same, and to have discernment about those who seek to divide.  Remember, that the Bible calls Satan “the father of lies”, and he will use anything, including people to divide and conquer.

In the short, but powerful epistle of 3rd John, we see that the problems we experience in the church today, were the same problems the early church dealt with.  Jesus warned of schisms that would rise up in the church, and we see this desire to divide, in a man named Diotrephes.  Today, Pastor Jeff says that the spirit of Diotrephes is still in the church today, but our victory is in Christ.

God supplies the faith to each believer to do His work.  But it’s up to the believer to put feet to that faith.  Are we being obedient to what God has called us to do?  Or is our faith lacking, and causing us to become disobedient?  Today on Sound Doctrine, we’ll conclude our study entitled “Faith with Feet”, and see that God will supply all of our needs, if we will only take a step of faith.

As we continue our study in 3rd John entitled “Faith With Feet”, Pastor Jeff Johnson gives us a clear biblical understanding of how to wisely give.  Weather we invest financially, or with our time, we must be aware of who we are giving to.

In Matthew, Chapter 7 Jesus said “Whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock.”  Today on Sound Doctrine, we begin a study entitled “Faith With Feet”, and Pastor Jeff reminds us, that without faith it’s impossible to please God.  And the only way our faith will increase is by hearing His Word.
