A Day of Wrath & Mercy! Part 3

January 28, 2013
In John 4:22, Jesus said, “Salvation is of the Jews.” Sadly Israel has chosen to reject Jesus as their Messiah. But on today's study in Isaiah, Pastor Jeff explains that one day, Israel will be saved. The same is true for you today, whether Jew or Gentile. If you will call upon the name of Jesus, He will be Savior to you.

According to 1 John 1:7, if we walk in God's Light, the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from all sin. As we transition into Isaiah 63, we learn that the wrath of God is used as a cleansing agent to the world. The world must be cleansed from its darkness and sin, so that it will be prepared for the Coming King.

As Christians, we have what is called a “Blessed Hope” — a Hope that purifies us as we anticipate the soon return of Jesus Christ. Today on Sound Doctrine, we gain insight of this blessed hope from Isaiah, and we see that God gave this man a picture of what would take place in the future.

The word “holy” means “set apart.” As believers, we are holy to the Lord, and He has set us apart from the world. He has imputed His righteousness to us so that we have eternal life in Him. This should fill us with excitement, and a desire to share the good news with others. Thanks for tuning in.

Our Christian walk is full of spiritual warfare. We struggle daily with resisting the flesh and temptation. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff reminds us that if we “resist the devil and he will flee.” Only by continually saying “No” to the world and “Yes” to Christ can we strengthen our spiritual maturity and walk close to the Lord. Yes, you will experience persecution. But take heart knowing that God provides the grace we need to endure every situation.

In today’s study we see the consequences of sin. Pastor Jeff uses the example of Sampson, who through sin lost his blessing from the Lord and was taken captive by the enemy. Are you struggling with an affliction that has taken you far from the Lord? Our God is a merciful Father whose amazing grace can forgive any sin.

As far back as Daniel, the Scriptures reveal that Christ would be crucified for the sins of the world; yet many nowadays still wait for the return of the Messiah. They are under the bondage of the Law, but we know that Christ has already come to earth once, and we eagerly await His return. But even now we can experience the blessings and comfort of Christ here on earth.

Despite all the troubles that Israel experienced because of her disobedience, one of the main themes running through Isaiah is that God will preserve Israel. Yes, they suffered desolation and captivity, but Isaiah continually repeats God’s promise to deliver His people in the future. In Isaiah 60, Isaiah paints a picture of Israel returning to Jerusalem, just as God said. Be encouraged by this — God is a loving Father who keeps his promises to His children.

The book of Isaiah brings us some of God’s greatest promises in Scripture. One of these is the promise that the Light has come. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, has arrived and He has sworn to save His people Israel. We are encouraged knowing that Jesus has come not only to save Israel, but everyone who believes in Him.

Prayer is one of the most important parts of a believer’s life. 1 Thessalonians 5:17 tells us to “pray without ceasing.” If your prayers are not effectual, there’s a problem. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff gives us the solution to a failing prayer life. Simply put, we must repent. When we have active sin in our lives, we cannot have fellowship with the Father. We must confess, and Christ will immediately cleanse and forgive us.

Are you a blessing or a curse to those around you? Until we are filled with Christ, we cannot hope to minister to those around us. In today’s study, Pastor Jeff tells us that we need to take in the living waters of Christ so that we can be filled and overflow onto those around us. When we delight in the Lord, He will bless us.
