True Christian

So it happened the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his three sons fallen on Mount Gilboa. And they cut off his head and stripped off his armor, and sent word throughout the land of the Philistines, to proclaim it in the temple of their idols and among the people. Then they put his armor in the temple of the Ashtoreths, and they fastened his body to the wall of Beth Shan. - >1 Samuel 31:8-10

After Saul and his sons died fighting against the Philistines, they dishonored their bodies, cut off their heads and hanged their bodies on the wall of Beth Shan. They also put Saul’s armor in the temple of Ashtoreths to further dishonor Saul and the Lord. That was not enough. They proclaimed Saul’s defeat in the temple of their idols and among the people. They shouted their victory from the rooftops, all to dishonor the name of Saul and, even greater, the name of the Lord.

Remember, for the Philistines, Saul represented the Lord. When they defeated Saul, they believed they had defeated the Lord. In times past, the Lord gave the victory to Saul, but the spirit of the Lord had departed from Saul. He fought without the Lord, but the enemy did not know it.

We see this all the time. People claim to be Christians and then they live their lives to bring dishonor to the Lord. They give non-believers ammunition against the Lord, because the non-believers think these people are really Christians, when they are not. If we are going to call ourselves Christians, we have a responsibility to bring glory to the Lord, not shame and dishonor.

If you were arrested for being a Christian, would there be enough evidence to convict you?
