Showing No Cowardice
And I said, “Should such a man as I flee? And who is there such as I who would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in!” Then I perceived that God had not sent him at all, but that he pronounced this prophecy against me because Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him. - >Nehemiah 6:11-12
Nehemiah was not bothered by what Shemaiahhad told him. Notice, how he responded, as if to say, “You think I am going to run?” Nehemiah counted his life as nothing; besides he was not doing this work for himself––it was for the Lord and His people. Nehemiah answered the false prophet with righteousness––I love that. In other words Nehemiah told him, “I do not have time for you!” Why should he flee and stop doing the work of God for pettiness? Nehemiah had a great attitude. He was not even upset, and he just kept focused.
Notice once more, Nehemiah’s discernment. He saw straight through Shemaiah’s false prophecy. As Nehemiah spent time in prayer, most likely the Lord gave him a word of knowledge. God gave him discernment and he recognized that Shemaiah was a hireling. Nehemiah’s enemies had hired him. This prophet was not sent by God––he had been paid off. Nehemiah was in tune with the Lord; he heard God’s voice and peacefully left the situation in the Lord’s hands.
Think about people who have lost sleep for days, months, and even years, over someone telling them something that was not true. They become so worried and waste valuable time over nothing. That kind of stress will kill you! It is better to leave them and what was said alone; in the hands of God. Then you can get yourself focused on what God wants to do.
Seriously, remain focused––let God do the work He has called you to do in your life.
Cowards run the greatest danger of any men in a battle.
