Words of Comfort

… so David sent by the hand of his servants to comfort him concerning his father. -  2 Samuel 10:2

David sent his ambassadors to comfort Hanun after the death of his father. This was a common custom; especially between princes who were in alliance with one another. David offered not only his kindness in sending a servant to him, but offered words of comfort.

Visiting and giving words of comfort to those who are in a state of grief after losing a loved one is our duty and the right thing to do.  We mourn with them, honor their loved ones memory and support them. The best words we can give to them are from the God of all comfort, as Paul says:

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God - (2 Corinthians 1:3-4).

When we have suffered tremendously and have received God’s comfort ourselves, then we are able to pass on God’s comfort to others. Pray and ask the Lord to send you to others, as His ambassadors of comfort.

Do you know anyone who could do with uplifting words of comfort today?

God doesn’t comfort us to make us comfortable, but to make us comforters.
