Remember Pearl Harbor: Never Again

Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.” - Genesis 9:11

Today, we remember the attack on Pearl Harbor by the nation of Japan. While our leaders had been in peace talks with Japan, their leaders were deceiving us and planning the attack on our Army and Navy base at Pearl Harbor. For the United States, World War II began on December 7, 1941.

This was a huge lesson to the leaders of our nation. They thought they could trust the word of the Japanese people, but they were speaking with forked tongues. While they said, “Peace,” they prepared a devastating blow to our military. Because of their deception, the motto of the day became, “Remember Pearl harbor, never again.”

Unfortunately, World War II was not the war to end all wars. We have had wars and conflicts around the globe, but “never again” did we allow world leaders to sit at the bargaining table and lie to us. We have stood by the motto born out of the lost lives of more than 2000 men and women and the blood of the more than 1000 wounded.

Those same words were spoken by the Lord. He said, “Never again will I send a flood to destroy the earth.” He made a covenant with His people, and we know we can take Him at His word. When He said, “Never again,” He meant it. Let’s pray for our world leaders today—that they have learned the lesson and remember Pearl Harbor: never again.

I believe that I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost, but will make it very certain that this form of treachery shall never again endanger us.
