Lowly Servants
Then David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was wearing a linen ephod. - 2 Samuel 6:14
Notice, David has turned from being sad and angry to rejoicing and dancing in the presence of God. When I read this verse, I think of Psalm 150, which is called “Let All Things Praise the Lord.” Bringing the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem caused David to dance and rejoice before the Lord.
What is cool about David dancing before the Lord is that he was dancing in worship and in praise towards the Lord. He danced in worship to the Lord. Many people saw him do it, but it was all done unto the Lord.
Not only was David dancing before the Lord with all his might, but he was wearing a linen ephod, which was the garment of a servant. He did not go before the Lord in rich, royal garments but as a servant of the Lord. God made him the king of Israel, but he would always be under the Lord—a servant of the Lord.
Look at the example David is to each one of us individually. When the leader is connected to the Lord, the people will be connected to the Lord. David was showing the people how to worship the Lord in humility.
When we come before the Lord in worship, we must come as lowly servants. He is the King of kings and Lord of lords. No matter our position or social status in life, God is the Ruler over all.
Those whom God will employ are first struck with a sense of their unworthiness to be employed.
