The Jesus of the New Testament: God in the Flesh?

We all remember Rodney King saying "Why can't we all just get along?" Many hope all denominations can one day unify. Problem is, unity without a common doctrinal basis is not real unity. There are crucial differences between the Jesus of the New Testament and the Jesus of many religious groups. Our job: to discern the true Christ among all the false ones.

Can a group that says Jesus is the brother of Satan claim to be Christian? There's one major religious denomination that does. Also, they teach that we can become gods just like Jesus did. Today: learning to distinguish the true Jesus from the false Christs that seem to be all around us, even when people promoting those false Christs use the same language we do.

Jesus made it very clear to His disciples that there would be many speaking in His name as the end of the age approached. These days, when you talk about Jesus with someone, you have to find out which Jesus is under discussion. That's why Erwin Lutzer is quashing some rumors that reduce Jesus to a mere man, rumors that have grown up into entire denominations.

CBS tried to use bogus documents to influence a presidential election. Accuracy matters, documents must be verifiable. That's why Luke took such pains to investigate and record only what he could vouch for in his gospel and in the book of Acts. These books have stood the test of millennia, and that will not happen with Dan Brown's The DaVinci Code. Today: the real deal on the real Jesus.
December 8, 2008
Some time ago, The DaVinci Code novel and movie mixed fact and fiction in a masterful attempt to undermine the Christian faith. The Holy Grail was said to be the remains of Mary Magdalene, the wife of Jesus who ended up in what is now France. An intricate web of politics, deceit and power follows in Dan Brown's best-selling attack on the person of Christ. Today: bogus fiction meets the real truth.

Some say truth is stranger than fiction. To Dan Brown, both were completely tangled in a mess called The DaVinci Code. With more factual holes than a piece of Swiss cheese, The DaVinci Code was a direct attack on the basis of the Christian faith and the person of Jesus Christ. Sad to say, even many Christians have been duped by fiction purporting to be fact.

Some scholars say that the Bibles' record of Christ's teachings is mostly an embellished myth from the imaginations of men. Let's take a break from the race of life and focus on this: if what Jesus said can't be trusted, your soul is in eternal jeopardy. So-called scholars aside, today we'll learn that the accuracy of the written scriptures is guaranteed by the Holy Spirit of God Himself.

Where would life be without Post-It notes: those yellow squares that keep us on track with all the things we have to take care of? Reminders are good things, since by nature we tend to forget. The Apostle Peter wanted to remind his readers about some key truths regarding the person of Jesus Christ. In an age where Jesus is being discredited by scholars, we need these reminders.

It's the height of intellectual arrogance: scholars around a table decide what sayings of Jesus they think are genuine. It's called the Jesus Seminar, where so-called experts try to demystify Jesus by voting on which of His teachings square with their preconceived notions of what He would or would not say. Today: we'll look at a blatant attempt to discredit the real Christ.

Some Bible promises were for certain people, while others apply to all believers. Keeping this straight solves many problems. Just because Joshua prayed for the sun to stand still doesn't mean we can. It just isn't true that "every promise in the book is mine." But there are powerful Bible promises we can and should stake our lives on. To learn how to discern what they are, stay with us.
