The process of becoming Christ-like involves a growing sensitivity to the Holy Spirit who wants to create in us the character of Jesus, so that sins that seemed insignificant suddenly seem big, and our desire to please God means more to us that pleasing ourselves.

The Holy Spirit is very sensitive, that’s why He is usually depicted as a gentle dove. He will not force Himself upon us so we must become attuned to Him so that we don’t grieve Him. Because when we grieve the Spirit of God, it makes it difficult for Him to bless us.

Believers in Christ are sealed by the Holy Spirit, and that seal is a down-payment on the eternal life yet to come. As God’s property, we’re on the road toward a future kingdom, and the Holy Spirit makes this real to all who are born again. But don’t assume that you have the seal of the Spirit. As believers in Christ, we know we’re in God’s hands and that we’ll make it to the very end. God has sealed us with the Holy Spirit, and He’s the only one who can break that seal. So though life may be hard, there are no permanent tragedies. We belong to the Almighty, and we belong to Him forever.

Moral purity is not easy, especially since our tendency (and our culture) tells us to gratify our desires. People will defend poor moral choices with a thousand excuses. But believers in Christ have the Holy Spirit, and if we follow His leading, He’ll convict us when our thoughts turn where they shouldn’t.

God sees every motivation and watches every act. This should help us keep intimacy where God intended it, and flee from any situation that might tempt us to defile our bodies. Our bodies, after all, are the temples of God’s Holy Spirit.
