The Battle For America's Youth #1 of 3

July 7, 2010
Independence Day reminds us that America won its freedom. But some in America today are still locked in chains. America’s youth are being targeted by powerful forces bent on their destruction through early addiction to pornography and substance abuse. Today we hear a call for a new Independence Day as parents take back control of the destiny of their children.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. On a national election day, character takes first place in the minds of many voters as they choose who will serve in Congress. However, promises made are promises easily broken, since a politician’s first priority is getting re-elected.   Today: some closing thoughts about that elusive quality called integrity as our series on “Who Are You to Judge” concludes.

It is said that the first casualty of war is the truth. That might also apply to politics, where truth is in short supply. A person of integrity runs life’s race without lying, and without ever stretching the truth. If you find a person like this, you have found a rare jewel. Character is vital, and in this message you will hear about more characteristics of a man or woman of integrity.

It is in great demand, but in short supply. It’s easy to spot, but hard to find. That rare “something” is integrity. Like having a sure footing when you run, having integrity means that all is well with both God and man.  People of integrity are honest and forthright, and have the reputations to prove it.

If another Christian accuses you of poor behavior because you do things he won’t do, it is good to remember this: Life is a race.  Helping a brother or sister stay on track is more important than flaunting your Christian liberty, or, winning at their expense.  That’s one key biblical principle in judging conduct.
July 1, 2010
Think about this: is it ever OK for one Christian’s personal conviction to become another Christian’s rule of behavior? Running life’s race is easier when we’re guided by principles rather than rules. Today, we’ll find those principles in the Bible: principles to help us judge conduct: that of others, and more importantly, that of ourselves.

Some Christians have strong rules of behavior: no movies, no dancing, and so on. Others have no rules. Who’s right? Many running life’s race are tripped up by the conduct of believers around them, conduct they feel is inappropriate for a Christian. How should we judge the behavior of others when our upbringing says what they’re doing is wrong?

People are fascinated by stories of the supernatural: tales of spirits, ghosts, unseen powers, and how to obtain them. There’s major money to be made in writing stories like these, as evidenced by the Harry Potter series, very successful in print and on the silver screen. Should Christians line up to buy books like these, or, should they take a second look?

Satan’s power is very real. His forces are quick to take advantage when we fail to guard the doorways of our lives. As we run the race of life, there is an unseen spirit world running as well. Demons try to subvert the purposes of God in every believer’s life. Our task: to discern the danger, and avoid opening the many doors that lead there.
June 25, 2010
TV and the movies treat the supernatural as a world of fantasy. We don’t take the occult seriously, since it entertains us. But demonic influence is very real, it’s enshrined in modern philosophies as well as in the media: music, TV, and the movies. As believers running the race of the Christian life, we must understand what we are facing, and how to deal with it.

When you see your body as your own property, you do with it as you please, even damaging it just to be accepted by others. But when you see your body as God’s property, everything changes. Gone is the mad rush to make improvements the Designer never intended. Also gone is the desire to alter your body in destructive ways.   To learn more about whose body it is you’re walking around in, stay with us.
