Egypt buried its Pharaohs with incredible wealth. It was assumed that they’d need it in the life to come. Are we like this? Some people hold on to their money until their knuckles turn white. It’s only when realizing that we do not own anything that true financial freedom comes. We are only managers of God’s wealth. And investing in His Kingdom brings a guaranteed return beyond our imagination.

It’s just common sense: no one takes a risk in the stock market unless they think the risk is worth the potential gain. Even in times of downturn, the principle of return on investment, or ROI, remains crucial. And when investing in the Kingdom of God, it is no less vital. Interest rates are time-dependent. The longer your money earns interest, the more it compounds. The widow who put two mites in the temple treasury could not imagine the ultimate sum her gift would draw in the bank of heaven. But God knew, and no doubt, He will reward her for the faith it took to give all she had. How much faith do we have in these uncertain times?

“What difference would my dime make, when those around me are tossing in twenty dollar bills?” Ever feel this way at offering time? Rich givers are vital in getting major kingdom projects paid for. Still, it was a giver with limited resources that caught the eye of Jesus in the temple courts. A poor widow’s selfless choice to give is now well-known by millions who have learned from her example.

The right to privacy is held dear by many people, especially people who want their financial dealings kept secret.But there is no privacy from the eyes of God. He knows our needs, and, our resources. He knows what we give, and what we withhold. He’s watching when the offering plate goes by, even when the economy is tanking.

When fundraising time rolls around at your church, attention often goes to those who can give large sums toward a project. But God’s attention may well go to that person who only has five dollars to their name. That gift might mean much more to the Lord than the five thousand dollars given by a rich man.
