God's Glory in Our Worship, Part 4 of 4 (Nothing Else Matters)

August 14, 2014

Believers running the race of life need a sharp focus on that race. Having that focus clears out a lot of life’s cobwebs. If our objective is the glory of God, our daily decisions get easier, our time is better used, and our joy is greatly increased.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. The Apostle Paul said Jesus was “declared to be the Son of God with power, by the resurrection from the dead.” If we trust Christ, the empty tomb in Jerusalem is a promise that the tombs you and I shall occupy will one day be empty as well.

Death is everyone’s unavoidable fate, the legacy of the first sin committed by Adam and Eve. But believers cling to the promise of Jesus, “I am the resurrection and the life…he that believes in me, though he may die, he shall live.”

Believers’ aspirations must pass through God’s hands. Jesus faced untold agony in Gethsemane. Knowing what awaited Him, and praying until His blood hit the ground, He said to His Father, “Not my will, but Thine be done.”

Some Christians believe the walk of faith should bring them happiness and prosperity.  Yet Jesus’ own walk included suffering. To walk where Jesus walked means walking in Gethsemane. Here, a decision was reached that made salvation possible.

Every day a thousand distractions call out, “listen to me.” But there is only one voice that really matters. When Jesus was transfigured, God spoke from within a cloud, saying, “This is my beloved Son, listen to Him.”

Atop a high mountain, a glorified Jesus appeared along with Moses and Elijah in the presence of Peter, James and John. This message will demonstrate the significance of those who gathered on that momentous day.
