Dying A Winner #3 of 3

July 25, 2008
Jesus Christ did not die accidentally. Every detail of His sacrifice was predetermined before time began. God was not caught off guard. God was in control. And we who believe in Christ look to His cross with deep humility and say with Thomas, "My Lord, and My God."

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. There are no words to adequately portray what happened on a pivotal Friday in Jerusalem some 2,000 years ago. An innocent man was led to His death for crimes He did not commit. But behind the drama was the real scriptwriter: God was about to ensure the salvation of all who would believe in His Son. And the cross was the only way to do this.

Every visible indication pointed to Jesus dying a loser, jeered at, beaten, and made to hang on a shameful cross. But God's purposes cannot be thwarted. All of Satan's forces could not prevent the redemption Christ was achieving for all who would believe. And Satan saw on that cross the certainty of his own appointment with a lake of eternal fire.

The Bible tells believers that life is a race to be run, but it is no tiptoe through the tulips. Temptations lie everywhere. The enemy of our souls is God's mortal enemy as well. Although his doom is inevitable, Satan has an evolving strategy to frustrate God's purposes. To get a big picture view of the battle for your soul, stay with us.

Sometimes we pause in the race of life to ask tough questions like, "Why does God let Satan cause so much destruction?" The Bible gives us insight in answering those tough questions. Today: a look at the problem of evil as Satan tries to prevent Christ from reaching adulthood, thus preventing our redemption.

While we never take our theology from Hollywood, all of us know that there is a great struggle going on between good and evil. We see it in nations, and we see it within our own hearts. Will this battle ever end?

God could have left mankind in the misery of rebellion, but chose to extend His grace by giving fallen man a Savior. Like a life-preserver to a drowning swimmer, there is a way of salvation from the rightful penalty of our sins. As we explore the big picture of God's purposes, we come today to God's answer for man's dilemma.

They say that hindsight is 20-20. If only we could see the consequences of our choices before we make them: but we cannot. Neither could Satan, who made the biggest miscalculation of all time. Luring Eve with a bite of fruit has led to horrific results down through the annals of history. Today, a look at what happened after the fall of man.

Rebellion: it is like a disease. We caught it from Satan, and now a drop of his rebellion is found in every human heart. His words to Eve aroused the same pride that caused his fall eons earlier. The first humans joined Satan in rebellion against their Creator. The sad results are all around us: death, and separation from God. Is there a solution?

Some call it the law of unintended consequences. This is certain: one day, Satan will reap what he never intended to sow. His great gamble of turning traitor to God has resulted in devastation on earth, and, for him, it will mean eternity in a burning lake. Where do you and I fit in? Stay with us.

Nothing is worse for a track star than to slip and fall during a race. Your pride is probably more wounded than your body. Interestingly, it was pride that caused the greatest angel ever created to trip and fall big time. In rebelling against God, Lucifer took millions of other angels with him. For the full story, stay with us.
