Christ the King #3 of 3

December 17, 2009
Many people find Christmas discouraging. Perhaps they have no one to celebrate with...no one to give them a gift.... Let's let Isaiah the prophet lift our spirits by reminding us of the future reign of Christ the King on this earth. Indeed, the baby Jesus will be a baby no longer when his thousand-year reign of peace dispels the darkness of war and suffering.

Three wise men visited the young Jesus after His birth. We recall their famous trek when we sing the carol "We Three Kings." Kings in ancient times had almost absolute power. A person's life or death was in a ruler's hand. Nowadays, presidents and congresses come and go. Today: a look forward to a time of a real king really ruling: Jesus on this earth.

Americans have little use for kings. Kings have absolute rule...that's why we declared independence in 1776. Kings have a total claim on their subjects' lives, time, and taxes. We're not used to that these days...we see kings as relics of a bygone era. But today: we'll see why Christ is the long foretold King of Kings, and what that title means.

Only a week and a half to go...Christmas morning will mark the end of the annual race to the finish line. Then we can rest...until we take back the presents we don't like and put away all those decorations for yet another year. For now, pause with us as we consider the position God the Father has given Jesus His Son, the one for whom the holiday is named.

When light hits a diamond, the facets reflect brilliantly. We see flashes of color in the radiance of the pure white core.... Like a diamond, the purity of Jesus radiates in many facets as we behold His glory. Isaiah gave us names to describe these characteristics in the ninth chapter of his prophecy. Today: a look at the names ascribed to Christ, and what they mean.

Merchants: they're into gift-giving, and they all love Christmas. They depend on it for a huge portion of their annual sales. At the mall we're assailed by lights, trees, tinsel, ornaments, and all sorts of holiday cheer. What you won't find there is much reference to the Christ whose coming is the reason for the season. Today: we're set to rectify that imbalance.

Well, there's only about two weeks of shopping till Christmas, and most of us just hope there's enough time left to get everything done.... If our broadcast finds you making plans to race to the store, remember this: the holiday has its roots in a far different culture at a very different time and place. Listen today as Erwin Lutzer brings us down to earth with another view of Christmas.

As Christmas approaches, all of us start running like never before. For many, Christmas has become a race of its own.... Buy those presents, decorate that tree, put those cards in the mail. And while you're on the move, take a few minutes with Erwin Lutzer, and consider Christmas from a different viewpoint, from a place far away and a time long, long ago.

Evolution is, at best, an attempt to evade God's authority over what He's made. That attempt will always fail.... Once the arguments are over, one simple fact remains: there must have been a beginning. And only God could have made what exists out of the nothing that had to precede the something. Today, we visit Job for the last time, who, after hearing all the evidence, repents in dust and ashes.

Evolutionists give the impression that the war is over...Christians should "just get over it." "No way," says Erwin Lutzer.... The teachings of Darwin have corroded the underlying fabric of society. Freed from obligation to a Creator God, people cast off their moral sense and do what feels good. The results are catastrophic. On this broadcast: God tells Job, his friends, and us, who's really in charge.

Some people scan the Bible looking for Jurassic Park. Finding no dinosaurs there, they wonder how those bones fit in.... Today, answers to many questions about how the fossil record fits in with the Genesis account of creation. We'll talk about those "missing links," and find that Darwin's evolution is a theory in search of evidence, and it's still looking.
