A Bad Man Made Good #1 of 4

September 2, 2009
Many philosophers see a dual nature in mankind: good and evil coexisting, and fighting for ultimate control. The Bible paints a different picture: one of a basic depravity that can only be remedied by the grace of God through Christ. Today: a big picture view of who we are, and how we can be made good in the eyes of God.

Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Today: teaching from First John to shed light on the darkness that's within each of us. Please listen with us.

Behind a façade of spiritual leadership, prominent Christians can become control freaks, doing much damage to the kingdom. Like King Saul of old, these people forget that God is ultimately in charge. Today: lessons from the Bible on the dangers of holding on too tightly to what we may see as ours. This may hit close to home, so please, please listen with us.

Control freaks are obsessed with themselves. It's sad, but true: by subjugating others, they seek to elevate their own importance. At some point such people become evil, as did King Saul of Israel. Today, we'll trace the life of a man so hard-hearted that he would not let go of his kingdom even when God told him to. To find out what happened, stay with us.

Some people are consumed with their own importance...so much so that they seek to control the lives of those around them to prove it. Such behavior is destructive, and can ruin the race of life for the oppressed as well as the oppressor. Today, we turn the light of scripture on the lives of so-called "control freaks." Know anyone like this? If so, please listen with us.
