When running the race of the Christian life, it’s easy to forget those who’ve never gotten on the track. Millions of people don’t know where it is. They try to gain heaven through their own efforts. They think that if their good deeds outweigh their bad, they’ll make it through heaven’s gates. Others hope that keeping the sacraments will insure their eternal future. So, what is the truth?

Picture a marathon runner all alone, way in front of the others. He doesn’t know that he left the correct route long ago. He’s sincere, but sincerely wrong. Run as he might, his efforts will never win him the race. Sincerity is great, but it’s not enough, especially when it comes to this all-important matter: the salvation of our souls.

The Christian life can be filled with joy, assurance, and deep satisfaction. But it’s also a life of suffering. Can these co-exist? Today, we will learn why faith always leads to ultimate victory, even though it may not change our immediate circumstances. We’ll come full-circle in our series on unanswered prayer, and find ourselves content with the God to Whom we pray.

All around us are people with long-term health issues. Issues that seem to have no resolution, short of divine healing. But when these people pray for healing, the answer appears to be an ongoing “no.” They hear the verse, “my strength is made perfect in weakness,” and wish, sadly, that their answer had been “here’s the healing you seek.” Are you disappointed with God today?

When Christians find themselves in a time of need, they naturally pray for God to provide. Sometimes the answer is “no…”. How we react to that negative reply is crucial. We must come to understand that even the “no” answers are still answers, and that God is fully aware of our needs and what is best for us. Today we’ll discuss why our faith can grow even when the answer is no.

It’s tough taking “no” for an answer. When we were kids, we all felt those “no’s,” when our parents denied our requests. There are times when the answer to a believer’s prayer is a clear “no.” When that happens, we can either become resentful, or we can increase our faith. Today we’ll learn how to react and respond when God denies a request.

Habakkuk might as well have been writing in our day. Many of his observations belong on the front page. It’s easy to feel trapped with no way out. Evildoers are having a field day, and the foundations of the nation are being torn apart. Yet in the midst of turmoil, the prophet has a burst of faith that God is still in charge — just as He is for the USA.

Our nation seems to be heading toward more government control and less freedom. So, what should Christians do? It’s not unlike the scenario painted by Habakkuk the prophet — things were bad and getting worse. He was asking God “Where are You?” Disaster was near, and it seemed as if God wasn’t concerned.

When God answers our prayers in ways we don’t expect, He’s reminding us that it’s Him we really need, not the answers. Today, we’re concluding a message on making sure our relationships with God are strong and growing — realizing that knowing Him is far more vital than getting what we want. Pastor Lutzer shares practical ways to strengthen your connection with God.

Sometimes, we ask God for things we clearly need and we seem to be left with no answer. But then, out of left field, another answer comes. Prayer is something of a mystery. We are commanded to ask in faith, without doubting. The answers sometimes come from unexpected directions, even unrelated to what we asked for. Today we’ll see another perspective on the matter of unanswered prayer — answers in disguise.
