Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. When you think of “Eden,” you think of a paradise where life is carefree and there’s nothing to worry about. But it was in this paradise that Adam and Eve sinned and sealed the fate for all of mankind.

Hindsight is 20-20. Anyone can see the results of a choice after it’s made. It’s tough to predict the future. What do you do when you’ve made a bad call, and have to live with it? The Bible has many examples of this, and today we begin a series on Making the Best of a Bad Decision. We’ll learn that there is hope, even if we’ve really messed things up.

All of this life is a preparation for the one to come. For the believer, this finite life will give way to an eternal one, and what God has prepared for those who have trusted Christ is beyond imagination. Not only will sorrows and pain cease, but we’ll experience “joy inexpressible and full of glory.” Today, a last look at perhaps the most important part of the invisible world: a place called heaven.

We can’t see the life to come as clearly as we see what’s around us. But the Bible does give some tantalizing views of what’s ahead for a child of God. Once we have a grasp of the wonders that await us, making it through this life gets a lot easier. Join us as we peer across the great divide into the ultimate destiny for all who trust Christ.

One of Satan’s favorite tactics is to whisper to Christians, “See, you sinned! You’re not worthy to get into heaven!”  The truth Satan hides when he does this is that believers don’t stand on their own records. They stand on the merits of Jesus. This allows us to deal with the guilt that often paralyzes us. Knowing our place in Christ means we can tell Satan to get lost.

A hymn-writer penned these words: “…clothed in His righteousness alone, faultless to stand before the throne.”  The Bible tells us that when we become believers in Christ, we’re given new spiritual clothing. The righteousness of Jesus is wrapped around us, making us worthy to stand before a holy God. In today’s message, we’ll see an Old Testament preview of this wonderful truth.

Just because something is invisible doesn’t mean it’s not there. The air we breathe is invisible, and it’s real. Angels are normally invisible as they do God’s work on behalf of the redeemed. But sometimes, God lets us see them, as when Elisha confronted an enemy king’s men. On today’s message, we’ll learn more about angels: the work they do, and what it means as we live in the visible world.

The Greek word for “angel” means “messenger.” Angels took God’s messages to many throughout the Bible. Normally we can’t see angels, but they are there, doing the bidding of God by ministering to the people of God. In this message, we’ll learn about a major part of the invisible world: God’s invisible agents.

Two kingdoms. Two kings. Two value-systems. Two pathways. Two ultimate destinations.  In Philippians 3, Paul tells of those who are enemies of the cross of Christ, and how we can discern who is in God’s kingdom, and who is in the world’s kingdom led by Satan. Today: how believers should be motivated to make a difference while they’re still in this world.

Christians live in two worlds: the visible one of everyday life, and the invisible world of the spirit. These two worlds are often in conflict, and so our journey through life isn’t always easy. Making it through that journey requires the motivation to endure it, but where do we find that motivation?
