We're truly creatures of the clock. To us, waiting means minutes, hours and days. But months and years? That's tough to take. When we pray for something, we hope for a quick response from God. But God has His own clock, not always in sync with ours. How do we handle prayers that, to us, are time critical, when the answers seem to be anything but? Today: Erwin Lutzer takes on this challenge.

If only we could see things the way God sees them. Then, we'd understand why some of our prayers went unanswered. When we pray, there's a bigger purpose at work than we realize. For us, getting the answer is all-consuming. For God, developing our characters is the real objective. Today: coming to grips with what to do when our prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling.

It happens again and again: a child at death's door...urgent prayer...the child dies anyway. Where was God? When prayer is not answered as we'd like, many simply give up and stop praying. We may question God's promises, his intentions, or even his character. If your prayers seem to bounce off the ceiling, you need to stay tuned for the next several weeks.

To an outsider, hearing people speaking in unknown languages no doubt raises more questions than it does answers. And so, the Apostle Paul argued for clear teaching in known dialects. His explanation of the gift of tongues tells us why they were given, referring to a prophecy in Isaiah chapter 28, a prophecy at the heart of today's broadcast.

For a long time, there's been controversy in the church about some of the spiritual gifts. Today: we hope to bring clarity. Some feel that the gift of tongues is a crucial evidence of the presence of the Holy Spirit. Others say that modern tongues do not form words in any known language. Today: Erwin Lutzer begins a careful study in First Corinthians 14, a study you won't want to miss.

Human love can fade when people grow tired of each other. Divorce statistics prove that human love is fleeting at best. Our motivation for service in the body of Christ, and for serving our marriage partners, must be found in what the Bible calls "agape" love, the love that comes from God. Only then can we endure life's tough times, and remain faithful to those we're committed to.

We often hear First Corinthians 13 at weddings, because it's the well-known love chapter. Today: a deeper look at love. For the Apostle Paul, love is the glue that binds together the body of Christ and makes it a place of mutual service. Without love, our best efforts are without true purpose. Today, turn with us to this famous chapter as we learn why love is the highest motivator of all.

The body of Christ is both wonderful and mystical, with a connection that meets our needs as we meet the needs of others. The local church you attend is but one small part of an enormous worldwide assembly that will never meet until eternity. Until then, we live and serve others where we are, knowing that our present experience only foreshadows what lies ahead.

These days some believers have switched off the local church, and are going it alone, or in small groups. This is not healthy. The body of Christ involves accountability to "those who have the rule over you." Only when we're part of a local fellowship can accountability take place. Today: we'll turn to First Corinthians chapter 12 and learn what the local church is all about, and how to find out where we fit.

An old proverb says "Many hands make light work." There's no doubt that sharing a task lightens everyone's burden. In the body of Christ, everyone has a gift with which to serve others. Knowing what that gift is, and putting it to work, are the keys to satisfaction and joy. As each does his or her part, the result is a marvelous harmony. Today: coming to grips with your gift.
