The Bible warns us to guard our hearts, lest we turn away from the counsel of God. It’s very easy to rely on our own instincts. King Asa was faithful to God, except at the end of his life. When we come to a fork in the road, we have two choices. If we choose the wrong way, we have to face the consequences. That’s what happened to Jonah, told by God to preach to people he did not like. His attempt to flee brought him to the face of God. The God whose will would ultimately be done. Today we learn lessons we can apply when coming to our forks in the road.

Obligations are something we all have. Some are like millstones around our necks, and we’d do anything to be free of the pressure. Today we hear a story of an obligation God gave to, His prophet, Jonah, and his amazing journey to avoid that obligation. Jonah was told to go preach to the people of Ninevah, and everything in him said “no way.”
