Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. To most people, hell is just a swear word. After all, who really believes in demons, pitchforks, and hot licking flames? Modern misconceptions of hell have made it a myth to most people. But hell is very real and very certain for those who die without Christ. Once this life is over, unbelievers will face the real terrors of death.

The very word brings to mind hopelessness and torment. Hell is a place of judgment that few take seriously. But that is a mistake. Hell is just as certain as heaven, and God makes it clear that He has made a way for you to escape the one and enjoy the other. Today we see a stark picture of a terrible destiny, a destiny you need not face.

Hollywood filmmakers help us imagine some pretty awesome places. But no video image could prepare you for the New Jerusalem. A 1500-mile cube will be the eternal home for the redeemed, a place Jesus called “My Father’s house.” If you trust Christ, it can be your house, too. No mortgage payments, just a wondrous city with a dwelling crafted especially for you.

Imagine the most wonderful place in the entire universe. Then triple its wonder. It would still pale in comparison to heaven. One day a city will descend to the regions of earth, a New Jerusalem, resplendent with the glory of God. Today we take a first look at our heavenly metropolis: the gigantic future eternal home for the redeemed.

Most of us have some fear of death. But the Bible paints some lovely pictures of what happens when a Christian dies. It is like folding your tent and leaving the campground. It is like weighing anchor and setting sail for home. Today we look at a final picture of a Christian’s death and what a believer in Christ can look forward to in that transition from shadowy darkness to the light of the sun.

At the end of the movie Star Wars, the heroes walk through a standing ovation to receive their rewards as thousands cheer. But that is not close to what it will be like when a Christian enters heaven. Truly, “eye hath not seen” what lies ahead for believers. All of us wonder what death will be like. For a look into and beyond the mystery of death, please listen to this message.

If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, turn to Luke chapter 16. Here you’ll find out what will happen to you when you die. A man cries in pain, begging to be able to contact his loved ones and tell them to repent, lest they join him in suffering a just judgment. The answer: “no.” Today: a sober look at a future no one would want if they knew it was coming.

It may surprise you to learn that no one is in hell today. Hell is empty, awaiting the arrival of another place called Hades. Hades is where unbelievers go when they die, and one day, Hades will be thrown into hell. Today we take a look at the Bible’s teaching about the ultimate fate of people who never trusted Christ for salvation. Will this be your fate at death?
