In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. The cross divides time. It divides the destinies of men and women. And the cross puts a final sentence of doom on Satan. The cross opens the way for us to run life’s race right up to heaven, leaving behind a vanquished Satan to suffer eternally in a lake of fire, a lake prepared especially for the devil and his angels. An amazing story of total victory.

The cross of Christ is the centerpiece of the human story. It is where Jesus atoned for sin and defeated Satan, our enemy. Running life’s race means reckoning with the cross on a personal basis, seeing Christ’s death as my only hope of heaven. Today: we see Satan the serpent’s doom made certain by a suffering Savior.

After Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden, Satan turned his attention to stopping the future birth and death of Christ. The earth became a battlefield, with Satan as the aggressor and humanity as his victims. Sin’s tragic consequences were only beginning to emerge. Today: the sad story continues with the devil still at work, and evil seemingly in charge.

The seduction of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden began an avalanche of sin and misery. Satan had apparently won. But the story is a long way from over. Today we’ll assess the far-reaching consequences of mankind’s fall, but also learn that God, from the very beginning, had in mind a way to repair the damage.

One fundamental difference between God and Satan is that God always speaks truth, and Satan always lies. His lie to Adam and Eve is his lie to you and me. Millions are deceived into thinking they can do what they like and still somehow end up in heaven. Our job: to recognize the lies that can send people to the same hell that’s reserved for Satan.

It’s said that a drop of Satan’s rebellion has fallen into every human heart. That first drop fell in the Garden of Eden. Each of us has a sin nature, a tendency to rebel against God. By eating the forbidden fruit, Adam and Eve fell victim to sin, with catastrophic results. Why did the first couple in paradise feel the need to disobey God?

In vivid Old Testament word pictures we find the origins of Satan, an angel of light who became God’s arch-enemy. He first appeared in the Garden of Eden as the serpent of paradise, and now he’s targeting you, and me, and everyone who runs the race of life toward God’s goal. Today: more about how Satan got his infamous start.

He’s called the prince of darkness, and the devil. Today, we begin a probing look at Satan, the serpent of paradise. We who run life’s race face an adversary every step of the way. But we don’t have to let him block the track. His weapons: lying and deceit. What’s our defense? Stay with us for a comprehensive strategy to overcome the schemes of the devil.

Waiting for God, it goes against our instincts. When something needs to be done, most of us want to jump in and do it. But waiting for His timing guarantees that things happen at the right time. Waiting for God means investing time every day in prayer: seeking His face, and seeking His direction. Today: how David survived the decade between becoming King and actually being King.

These are days of “instant:” instant coffee, instant internet, instant news. But lots of things in life are not instant. Patience is only developed when that patience is tried. Whether it’s long grocery lines or long waits for answered prayer, God uses these unplanned “waits” to mold our characters. Today: let’s listen to David as he deals with times of waiting.
