Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. Most of us have some fear of death. But the Bible paints some lovely pictures of what happens when a Christian dies. It is like folding your tent and leaving the campground. It is like weighing anchor and setting sail for home. Today we look at a final picture of a Christian’s death and what a believer in Christ can look forward to in that transition from shadowy darkness to the light of the sun.

At the end of the movie Star Wars, the heroes walk through a standing ovation to receive their rewards as thousands cheer. But that is not close to what it will be like when a Christian enters heaven. Truly, “eye hath not seen” what lies ahead for believers. All of us wonder what death will be like. For a look into and beyond the mystery of death, please listen to this message.

If you are not a believer in Jesus Christ, turn to Luke chapter 16. Here you’ll find out what will happen to you when you die. A man cries in pain, begging to be able to contact his loved ones and tell them to repent, lest they join him in suffering a just judgment. The answer: “no.” Today: a sober look at a future no one would want if they knew it was coming.

It may surprise you to learn that no one is in hell today. Hell is empty, awaiting the arrival of another place called Hades. Hades is where unbelievers go when they die, and one day, Hades will be thrown into hell. Today we take a look at the Bible’s teaching about the ultimate fate of people who never trusted Christ for salvation. Will this be your fate at death?

Some people who have been near death and came back reported a strange, inviting light beckoning them to cross through the door. But is that light what it seems to be? How seriously should we take the revelations of those in the twilight between life and death? We need to know, since one day, we too will pass beyond this life and then face what lies on the other side.

You never know when death will come, but what happens “One Minute After You Die?” Nothingness? A strange light? Another dimension? Or eternity? Death is a gateway to an endless tomorrow: Heaven, hell, the New Jerusalem and the moment we pass away, all coming up in a series you will not want to miss.

What do you do when your marriage ends due to abuse in the home? The sense of rejection can be overwhelming. There is a source of healing for the deep wounds of the soul. Jesus can reach out a healing hand, and since He himself was rejected while on earth, He knows what rejection and abuse are all about. Today we begin to walk the path to personal healing when abuse has taken its toll.

How can a man begin a marriage deeply in love with his wife, and later, abuse her verbally or even physically? When anger enters a relationship, abuse often follows. All too often the end game is divorce: the sad finale to half of all marriages. Today we look at how to find healing when we are abused, healing from the hand of Jesus who also was so cruelly abused.

The human mind has an amazing capacity to deceive itself, especially when addicted to a substance or behavior. We can tell ourselves all sorts of lies to justify what we are doing. Even when it is obvious to others that we are addicted, we tell ourselves we are not. Today we learn about overcoming addictions, and facing up to our tendency to deceive ourselves.

When we hear about addictions, many of us think of drugs and alcohol. But there are many addictions that can ruin our lives. Some marriages are short-circuited by an addiction to debt, or to pornography. No matter what we are addicted to, addiction is the blinding absorption of sin. Today we hear some advice from First John chapter one on making the move from walking in darkness to walking in the light.
