Living With Your Passions
In a hyper-sexualized culture, sex is either reduced to pleasure-seeking or conflated with our identity. But God designed us as sexual beings for emotional and spiritual intimacy whose highest calling is to worship Him. In this revised edition, Pastor Erwin Lutzer draws on forty years of ministry experience to present a rationale for sexual purity. He gives an honest answer to the sexual pressures we face like extramarital relationships, self-gratification, same-sex attraction, and more. As desire-driven creatures, we don't have to pursue happiness at the expense of character. With our identity grounded in Christ, we can live victoriously with our passions. It's said that the first casualty of war is the truth. That might also apply to politics, where truth is in short supply. A person of integrity runs life's race without lying, and, without ever stretching the truth. If you find a person like this, you've found a rare jewel. Character is vital, and today: you'll hear more about the characteristics of a man or woman of integrity.

It's in great demand, but in short supply. It's easy to spot, but hard to find. That rare "something" is integrity. Like having a sure footing when you run, having integrity means that all is well with both God and man. People of integrity are honest and forthright, and have the reputations to prove it. To improve your integrity score in the race of life, stay with us.

If another Christian accuses you of poor behavior because you do things he won't do, it's good to remember this: life is a race. Helping a brother or sister stay on track is more important than flaunting your Christian liberty, or winning at their expense. Don't be a stumbling-block: that's one key principle involved in judging our conduct. For more principles, stay with us.

Some Christians have strong rules of behavior: no movies, no dancing, and so on. Others have no rules. Who's right? Many running life's race are tripped up by the conduct of believers around them, conduct they feel is inappropriate for a Christian. How should we judge the behavior of others? Or, is it our business to judge at all?

Satan's power is very real. His forces are quick to take advantage when we fail to guard the doorways of our lives. As we run the race of life, there's an unseen spirit world running as well. Demons try to subvert the purposes of God in every believer's life. Our task: to discern the danger, and avoid opening the many doors that can lead us there.

TV and the movies treat the supernatural as a world of fantasy. We don't take the occult seriously, since it entertains us. But demonic influence is very real...it's enshrined in modern philosophies as well as the media: music, TV, the movies. As believers running the race of the Christian life, we must understand what we're facing, and, how to deal with it.

Some people spend thousands and endure multiple plastic surgeries to improve their looks, and enhance their self-image. In the race of life, many people don't accept themselves as clay on the potter's wheel of God. They become slaves to their peers, who value appearances. But you can see yourself as a unique creation of God, and then, live in freedom.

Take one look at TV and it's clear that life at its best is reserved for "beautiful people"...people like Britney Spears. The price tags have been switched, and now, many assess their value based on how they look. This distorted view of self is damaging, especially to young people, including Christian young people. So, how do we counteract it? To find out, please listen with us.

At no time in history has the entertainment culture invaded the church more than it has today. How should a Christian respond? One way is by doing an honest evaluation of the entertainment we seem to be addicted to. Last time on Running to Win we took the content test and the control test. How are you doing so far? Well, the test is not yet over... it concludes during this broadcast, so listen with us.

It's amazing -- you can scan a hundred channels of cable TV and come to the conclusion that there's nothing on worth watching. Entertainment has sunk to new lows. To a large degree, movies, popular music and TV have become a wasteland. How can a Christian discern what to watch or what to listen to? Is it time now to toss out the large-screen TV?
