The Puzzle of Your Addictions #1of 2

September 2, 2010

Some marriages are short-circuited by an addiction to debt, or to pornography. No matter what we are addicted to, addiction is the blinding absorption of sin. Today we hear some advice from First John chapter one on making the move from walking in darkness to walking in the light.

What does a wife want from her husband? Leadership and love. A husband wants his wife’s reliability and respect. When these needs are met, a marriage is on the right track. Still, conflicts arise. The correct handling of times of conflict will determine whether that marriage will last. Today we hear a few words to men on what they must do to be the kind of leaders God wants them to be.

When you look around, some people seem to have what’s known as “a marriage made in heaven.” Everything’s going great, or is it? Men are natural providers, women are natural nurturers. Men are known for strength; women for beauty. There are natural differences that set men and women apart to complement each other in a marriage relationship. These differences are built into us, and can be seen in Adam and Eve, the first couple. Today we look at more on clarifying the roles each partner plays in marriage.

While gender activists want to equalize everything between men and women, there are fundamental differences they can’t erase. Fact is, men and women are made differently, and have different roles in a marriage. Today we will sort out those differences, and seeing why those roles complement each other perfectly. This can remove a lot of stress from your marriage.

Moses told Pharaoh, “Let my people go.” Only after doing so did Egypt have release from the judgments of God. When it comes to feelings about past injustice, we have to let our bitterness go as well. In a marriage, peace only comes after releasing our terrible memories into God’s hands. Forgiving your mate can help heal the deep wounds of a relationship on the rocks.

Many bear enormous burdens from decisions they desperately wish they could undo. Keeping dark secrets from your mate takes a toll on your mind and heart, and only by coming clean can the past be faced, and a happier future enjoyed.
